As “Roja" reaches its conclusion, let us trace back the shocking revelations of these secrets: how the characters make their choices, and the inevitable consequences that follow.
Greta and Wendy's secret agreement
After serving ten years in jail, Wendy (Janice de Belen) returns to the loving arms of her family. But the truth behind her imprisonment is about to be unraveled by her own son, Olsen (Kyle Echarri), who accidentally discovers a million-peso check under Wendy’s name. “Napilitan akong akuin ‘yung kasalanan ni Greta (Lorna Tolentino) para mailigtas ang buhay mo,” she admits.
Years ago, Wendy sought Greta’s help when Olsen’s life was on the brink. Greta exploited Wendy’s desperation, promising financial aid for Olsen in exchange for Wendy taking the fall for Greta’s estafa case. This revelation enraged Olsen, even though Wendy insisted she did it for him. Greta, however, continues weaving her lies. She tells Magnus (Raymond Bagatsing) that their bank’s 300 million pesos were invested, when in truth she squandered the money on her gambling addiction.
When Olsen exposes the truth in front of Liam (Donny Pangilinan) and Magnus, Greta argues that she cannot bear imprisonment or being separated from her family, then shifts the blame to Wendy for revealing their supposed secret. Shocked by the revelation, Magnus urges Greta to apologize, but she refuses.
The traitor among the La Playa Roja staff
While Liam and Luna (Maymay Entrata) work hand in hand to save the La Playa Roja staff from being held captive by armed men, Liam realizes that the goons could not have known about his discreet efforts to help the hostages unless someone within the group was secretly in contact with them. As his doubts deepen, Liam begins questioning the staff, and even the innocent, like Happy (Rubi Rubi), fall under suspicion when a device is discovered in her possession.
It turns out that the blame placed on Happy was intentional. The traitor is none other than Smile (Rikki Mae Davao), a hotel staff member. During an inspection conducted by Liam and Luna, she had hidden the communications device she used to contact Emil (Joel Torre) and his team, later planting it near Happy. Liam gradually uncovers the truth, first hearing from Emil that her real name is Leni, and then confirming through her reaction that she is Emil’s daughter. Liam uses Leni as bait against Emil, leading to a shootout between them.
Wendy and Magnus’ affair
Greta and Wendy, despite showing a strong friendship at the beginning, have secrets surrounding their relationship. Wendy, aside from going to jail for Olsen, accepted Greta’s favor because she felt guilty about having an affair with Greta’s husband, Magnus. This affair was also the reason Wendy previously left La Playa Roja as she did not want to get in their way anymore. If not for Olsen’s life, Wendy would never have sought help from them, but she had no choice.
Later on, Greta confronts Magnus about still having feelings for Wendy, insisting that Magnus only married her because she was carrying his child. She admits that she once caught Wendy and Magnus secretly meeting, confessing their growing feelings for each other. “Nilihim ko ‘yun, ‘yung alam ko sa nangyari. Dahil natatakot ako na kapag hinarap ko kayo sa kalokohan n’yo, siya ang pipiliin mo,” Greta cries. Magnus realizes that Greta took advantage of Wendy by sending her to jail as revenge for their affair.
The real mastermind behind the siege
What everyone thought that Captain Jericho Jacinto (Floyd Tena) was the mastermind behind the La Playa Roja siege turns out to be wrong. It is the resort owner herself, Greta Roja, who orchestrated everything. As she runs out of ideas on how to pay her gambling debts, Greta seeks the help of Jericho, to whom she is also indebted. Greta proposes her plan of using the resort guests as collateral, explaining that although the resort’s security is tight, crimes could still occur.
Jericho then comes up with the idea of taking things to another level. Instead of simple robbery, he insists they should resort to hostage-taking to demand ransom. He forms a group, headed by Emil. Despite her doubts, Greta decides to go along with the plan. She insists, however, that no one should get hurt, except for Wendy, due to her resentment toward her.
The truth about Olsen's identity
When Olsen discovers that the ash jar, which was supposed to contain the remains of his deceased old man, is empty, doubt spreads across his face. Questions arise about who his biological father is, that even Greta suspects it might be Magnus, given his past relationship with Wendy. However, Wendy later debunks this rumor, revealing that Olsen’s real father is much closer than they thought.
He is none other than Homer (Christian Vasquez), one of Emil’s armed men and the brother of Lucas (Marc Abaya). Olsen becomes even more confused, as Wendy had consistently lied to him, but he eventually confirms that Homer is indeed his father. Wendy insists that Olsen no longer needs him, but Olsen refuses to accept this. “Buong buhay ko tinanggap ko na sa sarili ko na hindi ko makilala ‘yung tatay ko… iba pa rin sa pakiramdam na makilala ko ‘yung totoong tatay ko,” he says.
