Throughout the suspenseful run of “What Lies Beneath,” viewers have certainly cherished the little moments in which the compelling characters engage in light-hearted interactions, occasionally escaping the intensity of their haunting pasts and chaotic presents.
In these exclusive behind-the-scenes clips, viewers are treated to a rare glimpse of the cast letting loose—humorously forgetting lines, unexpectedly breaking character, and sharing hearty laughs—that undoubtedly also completes the fan experience.
Instantly beginning the fun peek at the cast in action, Kaila Estrada, Janella Salvador, Sue Ramirez, and Charlie Dizon—all playing the adult versions of the MABEL girls, except for Mutya Orquia, who portrayed their departed friend—try to hold in their chuckles during a graveyard scene in which Erica (Kaila Estrada) mistakes a cleaner for the lurking Edong Santiago (Jake Cuenca). Even their director noticed the exchanged glances of the leading ladies and called for another take.
Their younger counterparts are also present, with Mutya Orquia, Reich Alim, and Allyson McBride huddled under green umbrellas before stepping into the tragic car scene with Eliza Borromeo and Geoff Eigenmann. The younger Erica Melendez, Krystal Mejes, also makes an appearance, adorably apologizing for getting a little too serious with her character’s slapping skills.
Meanwhile, the young Lucas Santiago, Andrez del Rosario—also portrayed as an adult by JM de Guzman—was seen intently preparing for an all-out crying scene, hoping the take would begin before his tears ran dry.
Charlie, as Beth Sevilla-Mora, also has plenty of giggle-worthy moments with her co-stars, finding Yves Flores’ reaction to the bitter coffee hilarious. In one scene, Charlie was caught off guard when her booming voice unexpectedly echoed through the set, causing comic relief for the production staff.
In another, during a heated confrontation between the MABEL girls, Charlie missed her walk-out cue—while Sue comically narrated the mishap.
Think their characters would skip the dance floor? Definitely not. Janella and Sue shimmied their way through one shot, with Janella even sneaking in a volleyball reference with her moves. Meanwhile, Kaila and JM charmed viewers with their chill, spontaneous choreographies before filming another heart-wrenching sequence.
Back to Janella’s highlighted moments, the Kapamilya actress would often chuckle at her character’s habit of fanning herself when troubled. With a few line flubs here and there and immediately bouncing right back, she clearly shows how much she enjoys being on set.
More heartfelt memories were made by the cast as they brought the show’s gripping narrative to life. Amid emotional takes, they found moments to breathe—JM laughing off a flubbed line, Mary Joy Apostol savoring her bubble tea, birthday celebrations for Jameson, JM, and Sue, and the beautiful zoom-out shots from Alice’s balcony and the MABEL’s upcoming retirement house.
