Ricky Martin is no doubt one of the reasons behind the global popularization of Latin music, allowing him to sustain a long-term career as a versatile artist. His high energy onstage captivates audiences with his stage presence, powerful vocals, and dynamic dance skills.
The Ricky Martin fever is alive even on “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” where 5 of our talented ka-Familiars gave their own take on the iconic Latin pop superstar.
Edgar Allan Guzman (YFSF Season 1, 2015) - “She Bangs”
The studio erupted in screams as soon as Edgar Allan stepped in as Ricky Martin. He transformed into the Latin Pop icon, singing the iconic “She Bangs” with a full-on production of dancing and live vocals from Edgar himself.
Coach Jed Madela was curious about how Edgar Allan would give his own take on the singer. “At first, medyo nabitin ako nang konti… tapos nung may ginawa siyang routine doon, ‘yun ang Ricky Martin na hinahanap namin.” He added that Edgar Allan did a great job with his performance.
Judge Sharon Cuneta praised Edgar Allan’s handsome visuals. “’Yung look ni Ricky, lalo na ‘yung moves niya na mahirap gayahin, [kuha mo,]” she said. Meanwhile, Judge Gary Valenciano noted that Ricky Martin is one tough artist to copy, “The ‘Ricky Martin’ sexy---Edgar, I think you got that.” He praised Edgar for not overdoing it, but instead delivering it perfectly.
Edgar Allan placed 4th at the end of the season.
Kean Cipriano (YFSF Season 2, 2015) - “Livin’ La Vida Loca”
Kean delivered his final transformation at the “YFSF” Grand Showdown as Ricky Martin, grooving to the hit “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and performing with full charisma.
Kean’s supporters filled the studio, and his dance moves hyped everyone up. When the dance break hit, the crowd erupted in cheers, giving Kean even more energy during his performance. His fellow ka-Familiars were also seen enjoying the moment, dancing along with him.
Kean placed 5th at the end of the season.
Marco Masa (YFSF Kids Season 2, 2018) - “Livin’ La Vida Loca”
Mini versions of Ricky Martin also graced the “YFSF” stage, with Marco Masa performing “Livin’ La Vida Loca” in his white-and-black ensemble. Stepping out of the ‘iconator’ with a smirk and a groove reminiscent of Ricky Martin, Marco instantly hooked the audience with his performance.
Coach Nyoy Volante called him “Ricky Marco,” noting that everyone knows how talented an actor Marco is, and that he continues to reveal more qualities week after week on “YFSF,” including his dancing skills. He added that he truly admires Marco’s talent.
“This is the first time na completely, for a hundred percent, wala akong nakitang Marco. Nakita ko si Ricky Martin,” Judge Sharon Cuneta remarked, highlighting how he was able to channel every move and nuance of the Latin singer. Judge Ogie Alcasid echoed the sentiment, adding that Marco delivered a suave performance.
Marco placed 8th at the end of the season.
Alonzo Muhlach (YFSF Kids Season 1, 2017) - “The Cup of Life”
Breaking away from his usual cutesy persona, Alonzo Muhlach gave his own take on the hit “The Cup of Life” at the “YFSF Kids” Grand Showdown. As soon as he started singing, Alonzo had everyone on board---dancing, clapping, and moving along with him.
The judges were all delighted by Alonzo’s performance, thanking him for putting on entertaining stages week after week. Judge Gary Valenciano noted that aside from giving his heart and soul onstage, Alonzo carries that same spirit even offstage---something he considers Alonzo’s biggest asset.
Alonzo placed 8th at the end of the season.
Akira Morishita (YFSF Season 4, 2026) - “The Cup of Life”
Akira kept proving he’s the Ace Idol with his own Latin flair, channeling Ricky Martin as he performed “The Cup of Life” and swooning everyone with his moves. After his performance, Akira gamely showed off more of his dance steps as Ricky Martin, later joined by some members of the studio audience.
Applauding Akira’s performance, Judge Ogie Alcasid described it as being as sexy as Ricky Martin’s. “Nung pinanood kita, ganoon ‘yung epekto mo---that was very sexy. Huling-huli lalo na ‘yung vocals mo, sobrang commendable. Ang taas nung boses. The dance steps, kayang-kaya mo,” he said.
Judge Sharon Cuneta shared how proud she was of Akira. “From ‘yung unang pose mo, Ricky Martin agad. Hindi ka bumitaw. Enjoy na enjoy kaming lahat,” she said. Lastly, Judge Gary Valenciano explained that Latin artists have specific moves that are hard to embody, “Natuwa ako na ginamit mo nang husto ang talent mo para gumaya sa isang Ricky Martin,” he told Akira, adding, “Nagawa mo nang tama. Hindi ganoon kadali ‘yung ginawa mo kanina.”
As one of the toughest artists to embody, Ricky Martin proves just how much of an icon he is. Beyond his outstanding vocals, his music makes us groove---whether we’re great dancers or not. That's the magic of Ricky Martin.
