With her influential music, Avril helped define the sound and spirit of the 2000s era.

The fun brought by the Pop Punk Princess globally even reached “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” with 5 of our favorite ka-Familiars giving their own take on Avril Lavigne by performing her iconic hits through the years. Let’s take a look at some of their standout moments.

Justin Alva (YFSF Kids Season 1, 2017) - “Sk8er Boi”

Screams filled the studio the moment Justin stepped onstage with the 2002 anthem “Sk8er Boi.” Even from his first note as Avril, the judges were visibly impressed, their side comments brimming with praise as he continued to perform.

Kuhang-kuha mo si Avril Lavigne,” Judge Sharon Cuneta told Justin, praising how he captured the pop-punk icon’s essence. She added that since the first week, Justin had already proven himself as a strong performer. “’Yung pagkanta mo, paggalaw, kuhang-kuha mo siya,” she said.

Judge Gary Valenciano praised Justin’s effort, calling it both convincing and impressive, “I’m blown away. Incredible job.” Judge Ogie Alcasid followed with equal admiration, highlighting Justin’s attention to detail. “’Yung subtleties, napapansin namin ‘yun… nahuhuli mo. Ang galing mo,” he said.

Justin placed 4th at the end of the season.

Krystal Brimner (YFSF Kids Season 2, 2018) - “Complicated”

From hyped-up anthems to mellow rock, Krystal Brimner showcased another side of Avril with her rendition of the 2002 hit “Complicated.” She embodied Avril’s signature dark make-up and style, and even her adlibs were all Avril-coded---impressing everyone in the studio.

Speechless was the perfect word to capture Coach Nyoy Volante’s reaction to Krystal’s performance. He expressed admiration for her look, even extending congratulations to her make-up team. Nyoy emphasized that Krystal truly brought out the Avril Lavigne in her.

Krystal continued to impress the judges, with Judge Sharon Cuneta calling her performance “one of the very best” she’s ever seen from her. Judge Ogie Alcasid echoed the sentiment, praising how Krystal captured Avril’s spirit. “Huling-huli mo si Avril Lavigne doon---'yung attitude niya, swag, vocals,” he said.

Krystal placed 5th at the end of the season.

Kean Cipriano (YFSF Season 2, 2015) - “Sk8er Boi”

Still in rockstar mode---this time channeling Avril---Kean proves the rocker blood runs deep as he belts out “Sk8er Boi,” complete with her signature style, hyping the crowd like it was her own concert.

Judge Gary Valenciano praised Kean for perfectly embodying Avril’s carefree attitude. “Ang pagka-execute niya ng pagiging carefree… parang sanay maging babae,” he noted, contrasting Kean’s cool rockstar vibe with Avril’s playful energy. “Ginawa mo in a very impressive and excellent way.”

Coach Jed Madela called Kean’s act a “show-stopping performance,” noting how much fun he clearly had onstage. “Nakakahawa ‘yung performance mo na pati kaming lahat, very electrified,” he said, commending Kean’s consistency in delivering standout numbers. Judge Sharon Cuneta added her praise, highlighting Kean’s dedication to studying every little detail about the icons assigned to him.

Kean placed 5th at the end of the season.

Vivoree (YFSF Season 3, 2021) - “Girlfriend”

Hey, hey---it’s Vivoree as Avril in the house! She rocked the stage with her own take on the 2007 classic “Girlfriend,” hyping up everyone from the jury to her fellow ka-Familiars. Her performance brought nostalgia that lit up the studio.

Judge Sharon Cuneta was among those who enjoyed Vivoree’s performance, noting that it added more pressure on the judges in deciding who would win for the week. Judge Ogie Alcasid also praised Vivoree, commending how she captured Avril’s overall vibe and expressing how much he enjoyed watching her.

Judge Gary Valenciano commended Vivoree’s powerful stage presence, noting how she internalized the performance as her own. “Parang na-internalize mo talaga na ‘this is my world,’” he said, adding that she successfully brought the audience into her world while showing her artistry.

Vivoree placed 3rd at the end of the season.

Alexa Ilacad (YFSF Season 4, 2026) - “Girlfriend”

Another trending performance came from Alexa as she transformed into yet another pop icon---this time embodying Avril Lavigne, whom she personally looks up to. Singing the hit “Girlfriend,” Alexa turned the stage into a full-on rock concert. Even after her number, she kept the energy alive by leading the audience in a Filipino version of the song.

Judge Gary Valenciano noted how Alexa already commanded the stage, pointing out how she got the audience to sing along even during her performance. He encouraged viewers to show love in everything they do, just as Alexa shows her love for her craft through her performances.

Meanwhile, Judge Ogie Alcasid shared an anecdote, recalling his encounter with Avril Lavigne at the MTV Music Awards back in 2003. He highlighted how good of a person Avril is, drawing a parallel to Alexa. He also stated, “No fear [si Alexa]. Parang lahat kaya mong gayahin,” he said, praising her versatility and confidence.

Judge Sharon Cuneta emphasized how they always knew Alexa would deliver an excellent performance. “You always do everything so wonderfully. You’re so committed to every artist na naa-assign sa’yo na gayahin, na when you perform, kasama kaming lahat sa energy at happiness mo,” she said, praising Alexa’s consistency and passion.

From her iconic style of wearing ties even on ordinary days to her pop-punk make-up looks, Avril Lavigne undeniably shaped a generation with artistry that stood out from other pop icons---and we love her all the more for it.
