After dazzling audiences with her transformation to seasoned multihyphenate Jennifer Lopez, in the previous round of “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” Dia Mate went on impress with her portrayal of American singer-rapper Doja Cat as she performed the viral hit “Woman” on the January 11 episode.
And it seemed that her preparation this time went beyond simply watching and listening to Doja Cat’s performances and attending mentoring sessions with coaches Klarisse de Guzman and Nyoy Volante, as Dia also had the awesome chance to witness the Queen of Pop-Rap perform live at her Manila concert on December 7.
As host Jhong Hilario asked about the experience, she excitedly related, “When I found out that I was going to be able to watch her concert, as in sumigaw ako. Kasi I love Doja Cat, I love her music, and it was like the perfect opportunity for me to go watch and absorb the energy.”
Jury member Sharon Cuneta expressed how proud she was of the Singing Reina as she saw how she really enjoyed her performance and how she had put her heart into it by studying her icon so well, which was evident in the way she sang and moved on stage.
Coaches Klarisse and Nyoy both agreed that Dia’s act was indeed “on fire,” with Klang echoing the Megastar’s remark with regard to the awe-inspiring confidence that she had displayed and highlighting her rapping skills, which she wasn’t able to see during their mentoring session. Meanwhile, Nyoy congratulated Dia for the “great, great performance,” noting that she had fully embodied her icon from start to finish.
When it was his turn, jury member Ogie Alcasid humorously told the hosts that he would leave it up to celebrity performer and Dia’s bestie, Rufa Mae Quinto, to comment on the performance of Dia on his behalf. With how she was able to pull off her impersonation of Doja Cat from the way she looked to the way she presented her icon onstage, Rufa Mae described it as “perfect.” Ogie agreed to her and added that Dia had delivered just the right amount of sensuality, which made it “giving Doja Cat.”
