Throughout the more than two years that “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” has been on-air, ardent viewers have surely witnessed how Tanggol (Coco Martin) valiantly fought against a plethora of enemies, which once included his biological father, Ramon Montenegro (Christopher de Leon).
As we all know, Tanggol is the product of Ramon’s sexual assault on Marites (Cherry Pie Picache), and neither of them knew about it as she, her mother, Tindeng (Charo Santos), and her husband, Rigor (John Estrada), agreed to keep the truth from Tanggol and everyone around them.
A couple of decades later, the paths of Tanggol and Ramon finally intertwined for the first time at a wedding party, wherein an intense gunfight ensued between their groups. Ramon was able to spot Tanggol, which indeed astonished him since he looked exactly like him when he was his age.
That encounter haunted Ramon for a very long time, as he was left wondering who that mysterious young man could be. After that, the estranged father and son were further connected by Mokang (Lovi Poe)—the woman whom they both genuinely loved—through whom they were able to discover each other’s identity, except for the connection that really ties them. They’d become enemies, as they blamed one another for the demise of Mokang.
Their rivalry ended when Marites finally revealed, not just to them but to everyone in Barangay San Dimas who had witnessed their high-octane altercation, that they should stop fighting and killing each other because they are father and son. The revelation may have shocked both of them, with Tanggol initially finding it hard to accept that the man he deeply abhorred is actually his long-lost real father, yet they eventually learned to welcome each other in their lives.

Since he had been absent from his life ever since he was born, Ramon’s way of making up for his shortcomings as a father and convincing Tanggol to accept him was by promising to bequeath all his wealth to him. But instead of getting delighted and enthusiastic to take his offer, Tanggol strongly refused it and told Ramon that he didn’t need it.
Ramon then introduced Tanggol to the patriarch of the Montenegro family, Don Julio (Tommy Abuel), who was actually ecstatic to find out that he has a grandson and the empire they’d built for years would have an heir. Thus, Ramon couldn’t be any happier that Tanggol accepted to be officially part of their family, as well as that he agreed to be introduced by him and Don Julio to their business partners through the party that they had organized for him.
Tanggol further impressed Ramon and Don Julio at that party when he bravely confronted Miguelito (Jake Cuenca) for bullying and belittling his friends. Ramon commended him for showing everyone that he was indeed a true member of the Montenegro family since he refused to easily back down from the fight. Don Julio also gave him a “very good” remark as he expressed his willingness to still befriend them despite what happened since the Guerreros were among their business partners.
Aside from throwing a party for him, Don Julio and Ramon also gifted him guns that he could use. Apparently, Tanggol appreciated their efforts and kindness to him, so he started to call Ramon “Papa” since then, which signified that he had already set his angst against him aside. This development, of course, delighted not only Ramon and Don Julio, but also the ever supportive and loyal friends of Tanggol.
Tanggol may have strongly objected to the illegal drug business of the Montenegros, yet he truly appreciated it when Ramon supported him in his endeavor to run as mayor of Manila. Besides, Ramon also vowed to not carry out or engage in any fraudulent acts in order to secure his win in the elections as per Tanggol’s request since he wanted to fight fair and square.
And lastly, Ramon and Don Julio may have already discovered Tanggol’s treachery, yet they were still able to find it in their hearts to forgive him and his friends.
