Viewers finally got to see the much-talked-about “1 versus 100” sequence, the very scene directed by Gerald Anderson himself in "Sins of the Father." Here, his character Samuel takes on a hundred men to infiltrate Jacob (JC De Vera) and Roldan (Joko Diaz)'s group.
The rush of excitement even spilled into the commercial breaks, with a special gap show running for two nights, August 28 and 29, in tie-up with Kapamilya Chat, where cast members joined live to talk about the episodes and the series.
Even in the middle of taping, the cast took time to appear on the series’ special gap show. First to be interviewed were Kolette Madelo and Binsoy Namoca, who expressed how grateful they are to join the cast. As the newest additions, there’s so much they look forward to, including the chance to work with Gerald, which isn’t that far-fetched since they're playing hackers who will likely help Samuel unravel the scamming case his father left behind.
Also taking part in entertaining netizens during the commercial breaks were Gerald himself along with Joko Diaz, JC De Vera, Nico Antonio, and Jerald Napoles, who chatted about the episode live.
Expressing his excitement for the airing of the scene he directed, Gerald said he could never have accomplished it on his own, "Hindi ko po talaga 'yan magagawa at mabubuo if I didn't have the support of the team, ng buong production."
"As a director, I really did my best so sana ay magustuhan ng mga tao," he added, hinting that he hopes for more opportunities in the director’s chair while promising that the team will always strive to give audiences the best show possible.
Gerald’s action scenes in the series have led netizens to dub him the “John Wick ng Pinas” Gerald chuckled at the comparison but graciously credited his co-stars. “They make me look good,” he smiled. “Sila ang kaeksena ko every taping day. And it’s like being in a playground, parang naglalaro kami. But to be able to share the screen with very passionate actors, and the people behind the camera—mga directors, even producers namin—lahat passionate, so to be in this environment, kailangan ko talaga mag-level up to be able to be with them.”
As one of the biggest action stars of the ’90s, Joko shared that back in their time, being trusted with a large-scale action sequence always came with the unspoken rule of giving your best. Watching Gerald step up to that challenge left him nothing but proud, especially since Gerald wasn’t only the lead but also the director, and he carried the double burden with ease. “Hands up to you,” Joko told him with a pat on the back. “Very good! Very good! Congrats!”
JC echoed the praise, saying, “Hats off to you, Direk Gerald,” and described the shoot as grueling for everyone, yet also a testament to Gerald’s perseverance, which the entire team mirrored from start to finish. "Blood and sweat ang naramdaman ng lahat dito pero it's going to be worth it."
Nico also credited Gerald for being the cast’s source of determination during the shoot, "No'ng time na dinirek niya kami, siya 'yung energy namin kasi pagod na lahat halos but we were still working on adrenaline." Jerald agreed, adding that Gerald’s energy never seemed to run out despite a backbreaking shoot from morning to night, showing just how much he had prepared for the task.
On Day 2 of the special "Sins of the Father" gap show aired on Kapamilya Chat, viewers got to hear from Junjun Quintana, Ace Carrera, Leigh Ang, Ashton Salvador, and Elyson de Dios. The group discussed the social relevance of the story, which delves into scams and deception, each of them reflecting on the lessons their characters impart.
Ashton pointed out the importance of being cautious, "Huwag kang maniniwala basta-basta," and added that people always have to fact-check. Elyson, whose role resonates with those who have experienced love scams, stressed that awareness is the first step to avoiding such traps. Ace further tackled, "Walang masama na mangarap nang mataas pero make sure na tama 'yung daan na pinupuntahan mo." Junjun echoed the thought, noting how his character taught him that everyone is gifted with a skill but it has to be used wisely to avoid going astray.
Like the first batch of cast members interviewed, the group also expressed excitement for Gerald’s directorial debut. Elyson, being one of Gerald’s closest friends, shared how happy and proud he is to see this new feather in his cap.
And while their on-screen scenes are often action-packed and intense, off-screen, the cast bonds over fun moments and food more than anything else. The guys revealed that Leigh spoils everyone by bringing food and local delicacies to the set, to which she laughed and confessed that cooking and feeding the group is actually her love language.
During the next gap, Gerald returned to talk about his directorial work, expressing how eager he was for viewers to witness the result of everyone's efforts. "Kapag pinaghirapan mo ang isang bagay, magiging proud ka," he said, though admittedly nervous as he hoped audiences would appreciate his work. Still, the overwhelming support from the production team and management, especially from JRB Creative Production head Julie Anne Benitez, helped ease his worries.
Gerald recalled that it was actually the producer who suggested he direct the scene. He recalled JRB happened to visit the set one day, when the “1 versus 100” sequence came up during a huddle where ideas were being pitched. That's when she thought Gerald should take the helm. The idea alone thrilled him, as it was the perfect chance to apply everything he had absorbed in more than two decades in the industry, much of it inspired by his directors and mentors like FM Reyes, Avel Sunpongco, and Bjoy Balagtas.
Taking on the challenge was no small feat, and Gerald knew it demanded complete seriousness. He knew preparation is everything. Gerald said he planned every detail carefully so he could stay focused and composed once the cameras began rolling. Tired or not, he and the team kept rehearsing stunts to perfect the sequence. And it wasn’t just the action that needed his attention, he also had to ensure the script was polished since this part of the story serves as the bridge that will carry the series into its Book 2.
