After being repeatedly teased by her family about Tanggol (Coco Martin), Fatima (Andrea Brillantes) finally ‘fessed up to her Tito Nognog (Nonong Ballinan) during their recent heart-to-heart chat that she indeed harbors special feelings for the main hero of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo”!
And as we look forward to seeing if there’s a possibility for romance to bloom between them, let us reminisce on the scenes of Tanggol and Fatima that showed how their closeness began—from the crossing of their paths for the first time to the growing friendship between them—in this episode of Kapamilya Update.
Those who have been regularly watching the primetime action-drama series can certainly recall that their connection all started when Fatima came up with the idea of abducting Tanggol while he and his friends were handing out money to the people of Sandimas. Presuming that he was wealthy, she and her Tito Nog saw it as an opportunity to gain money out of their desperation to bail her brother out of jail after being wrongfully accused of a crime he didn’t commit and to start afresh in life with their family.
Even though she’s a petite woman, Fatima proved that she had enormous courage and determination in her, for she was able to handle Tanggol and make him follow her orders all by herself as she took him as a hostage while they were aboard his car. And when he refused to obey her, she suddenly hit him on the back of his head with his own gun that she used to threaten him, which caused him to pass out.
She and her family brought him to their house, simply telling their neighbors that Tanggol was her boyfriend as they passed through their neighborhood’s narrow alleys. In order to conceal their bad act and to not stir suspicion, her father, Paeng (Michael de Mesa), and Tito Nognog claimed that Tanggol got really drunk during their drinking session. That was why he was unconscious and had to be assisted by them going to their abode.
When he regained consciousness, Fatima tried to feed him, but he refused. Tanggol warned her about going up to someone whom they don’t know very well and advised her that they didn’t have to commit a crime for them to earn the money they needed because there are decent ways to do it.
As Tanggol mentioned the conversation he had earlier with her grandma, who admitted to him their real motive for abducting him, Fatima told him that he didn’t have idea what they were going through everyday since he’s rich. She also asked him to stop lecturing her on what she must or must not do because she’s willing to do anything if it’s the welfare of her family that is at stake.
Despite what the Benitos had done to him, Tanggol saw their kindness and sincerity, especially Fatima, with whom he was able to relate with regard to their love for their respective families. Thus, he saved her from being caught by his friends and his father’s henchmen after she was able to collect the ransom money that they asked from his family.
He snatched the bag from Fatima, which infuriated her and prompted her to threaten him anew. However, she got dumbfounded when Tanggol presented to her the tracking device that his friends placed inside the money bag—and true enough, they were indeed tracking its location.
Instead of harboring ill feelings against them, reporting them to the authorities, or letting his friends and the Montenegro minions catch them, Tanggol rather helped the Benitos by paying off their debts and giving them money. Thus, Fatima and her family couldn’t be any more grateful to Tanggol for the compassion that he had shown them.
Their paths once again intertwined when Fatima and his family approached Tanggol to inform him that it was his political rival, Miguelito Guerrero (Jake Cuenca), who was really the culprit behind the tragic demise of his brother, David (McCoy de Leon). Fatima related that she actually witnessed how Miguelito did it, yet she wasn’t able to do anything to help him. Paeng chimed in by saying that since his daughter witnessed the crime and knew the secrets of the Guerreros, Miguelito and his family wanted them dead.
Fatima begged him to help them after the Guerreros came to their house and riddled it with bullets, which killed her mom, grandparents, and another uncle. Tanggol, of course, didn’t easily believe them after what they did to him before, but she vowed to testify against Miguelito and his wicked family in order to help Tanggol attain justice for David.
So, Tanggol promised to protect Fatima and her family from the Guerreros, especially that she was about to give her statement in front of the public during the miting de avance of Team Tanggol. He offered her to stay at the mansion for him to be able to watch over them but she declined it, for she didn’t want to cause more trouble for Tanggol. He also reminded her that it was just okay if she backed out if she had hesitations or fears, but Fatima insisted on still doing it because it’s also her fight now after what Miguelito did to her family.
And the moment the Benitos had been dreading unfortunately happened, as Mayor Roberto Guerrero (Albert Martinez) commanded PLTCOL Salvador Romero (Efren Reyes) and his minions to search for the Benitos at the cemetery where they were hiding and finally silence them.
Just when the Benitos thought that it was going to be already their end, Tanggol and his group came to the rescue to save them from harm. In the end, he was not only able to save Fatima from being taken hostage by Col. Romero, but he also managed to kill the debauched police officer. Thus, Fatima wasn’t able to stop herself from embracing Tanggol after he was able to take her out of danger.
