She may be the youngest among the 20 housemates that took part in “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition,” but Kapuso artist Charlie Fleming is able to prove that she’s one of the toughest, for she was able to make it to the coveted Big 4 alongside her final duo partner, Kapamilya star and content creator Esnyr Ranollo, with whom she shares the 3rd Big Placer title.
And two weeks after the “Kuan On One” episode featuring Esnyr was released, Charlie’s turn to showcase her bubbly, witty, and proud Bisaya facet on full display has already come because she’s the latest guest of Kuantie Melai Cantiveros in the well-loved Bisaya online show!
The “Bubbly Bread-Teener ng Cagayan de Oro” may have stayed inside Bahay ni Kuya for around 100 days, yet she still had a lot of things to share about her remarkable stint. She began by recounting how she almost didn’t make it to the lineup of Kapuso housemates mainly because of her age. However, when they still couldn’t find one more artist they wanted to join, Sparkle decided to finally put her in and had her go through a last-minute audition, probably because she looked kind of mature to be 16.
When asked by the host regarding her reaction upon entering the popular blue and yellow house, Charlie related that it made her exclaim, “Sumakses na ako!” for it had been her dream of making it to the reality program ever since watching it for the first time in 2018 via the “PBB Otso” season. Besides, it had long prayed for it, so she was already happy to be able to step on the grass upon entering Bahay ni Kuya.
While Kuantie Melai imparted that it was the absence of a clock inside that initially surprised her during her time as one of the housemates of the “PBB Double Up” season, Charlie shared that it’s actually her housemates that shocked her since she actually expected at least one person her age, and yet there was none. All of them were already in their 20s, except Kapamilya housemate Klarisse de Guzman, who is already 33.
Despite her young age and being the bunso among the “PBB Collab” housemates, we’d certainly witnessed how Charlie bravely fought and kept up with her ates and kuyas, especially when it came to the tasks. We were also able to see how tough she is during her conflict with their first-ever celebrity house guest, Ivana Alawi, just on the pilot week of their season, which even went viral on the internet.
Just in case you’ve missed it, their misunderstanding started after Charlie immediately threw a piece of fried chicken that fell on the ground, which, according to Ivana, Klarisse, and fellow Kapuso housemate Ashley Ortega, could have been washed and cooked again.
Besides, it also didn’t sit well with them when Charlie ignored them as they called her to stop her from going inside the house while she was soaking wet. Those events had prompted Ivana to confront Charlie about her demeanor, as well as to advise her about being mindful of her actions and respectful to people older than her.
As Kuantie Melai asked her how she explained herself at the time, Charlie said that she actually didn’t try to explain herself anymore.
“Hindi na ako nag-explain para sa sarili ko. Kasi kung ‘yon ang tingin nila sa akin, okay na ‘yon. In-accept ko ‘yon. Nag-adjust na lang ako sa kanila. Pero no’ng time na may biglang pag-confront, hindi ako binigyan ng saktong rason na, ‘dito kami na-offend sa bagay na ‘to.’ O ‘ito ‘yong pinaka ganito, ganyan.’ May konti silang binigay pero para sa akin ang dami pang kulang,” she related in Bisaya, and went on to add that she actually got hurt when she was told that she was being disrespectful of her ates and kuyas there.
Charlie further added that if it was only explained to her the proper way, then she would have understood it. So, in order to patch things up, she simply adjusted to them as she noticed how they seemingly got overwhelmed by how strong her personality was at only 16 years old. And the adjustments she had made paid off as she became closer with her housemates, to the point that the Kapamilya housemates even chose to save her from the first nominations by giving her immunity.
“At least first week pa lang, nagpakatotoo na rin ako. Nakita na nila kung ano ang ugali ko,” Charlie remarked.
As Kuantie Melai mentioned to Charlie how much her housemates loved her as they cried so much during her eviction, the Kapuso star related that she actually didn’t expect their reactions. She went on to recall a funny moment a few hours before eviction when the housemates gathered in the living room to supposedly express their farewell to the nominees with whom they had something to say.
While others were probably getting soppy already at the time, one of the housemates approached her but didn’t say goodbye as he/she chatted with her instead. Four other housemates joined them, with the five of them telling her that she wouldn’t get evicted and she would be fine—yet it was her and her duo partner at the time, Kapamilya actress Kira Balinger, who had to leave Bahay ni Kuya that night.
