Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) has lived a life full of chaos, pain, and difficult choices, and through it all, viewers of "FPJ's Batang Quiapo” have grown deeply invested in her journey and can't help but root for her happiness. So, when Ramon (Christopher de Leon) returned into her life, remorseful and determined to make things right, many netizens are hoping she finally finds peace—with him.
Viewers think that Marites would be better off leaving behind her toxic life with Rigor (John Estrada) and starting anew with the man who’s now willing to fight for and protect her. If you're one of the many followers shipping them, here’s a look back at some of Marites and Ramon a.k.a. MaMon's sweetest moments in "FPJ's Batang Quiapo."
When Ramon found Marites after long search, he became more determined and even followed Marites to her place in Quiapo. However, she kept running away, fearing someone might spot them together and discover their past connection. Using his influence, Ramon found a way to corner Marites and try to convince her to give him a chance to make things right. But for her, the best way he could atone for his past actions was to completely disappear from her life. His presence would only make things worse, especially with her then already troubled marriage to Rigor.
Desperate to talk to her, Ramon pretended to be a buyer interested in Marites' items that she was selling outside Quiapo Church and arranged a meet-up for the transaction. Of course, she was furious after realizing his pretense. Marites left, but as she was crossing the street, distracted by all the problems on her mind, she accidentally bumped into a car. The angry driver was about to lash out when Ramon stepped in and saved her. Feeling indebted, she reluctantly agreed to meet Ramon and talk. He took her to an expensive restaurant, where he apologized again. But she remained firm, telling him they shouldn’t have any more connection and that she doesn’t know if she could ever forgive him. Ramon responded that if it would take forever to earn her forgiveness, he’d be willing to do wait.
There were many more moments after that when Ramon would be the one to find Marites whenever she was quietly breaking down, overwhelmed by her problems. In those times, he became her source of comfort, the person who would listen and give her advice whenever life got too confusing. In one scene where Marites called him out of desperation because she had no one else to turn to, he told her directly that he wanted a chance to make up for everything—not just to her, but also to their son, Tanggol (Coco Martin). And then, Ramon began to see a flicker of hope in the way Marites was slowly softening. Before she left, she tapped him on the shoulder and thanked him for simply being there, for giving her even just a moment to cry and let it all out.
In another scene, Marites helped Ramon tend to the wound after he got injured saving her. They were so close that Ramon, unable to contain what he was feeling, gently stopped her hand, and kissed her.
Ramon later proved that it was really Marites’ heart he wanted to protect when it was finally revealed that her and Rigor’s son, David (McCoy de Leon), had only been pretending to be Tanggol. Despite this betrayal, Ramon held back from retaliating because Marites asked him to. He didn’t want to see her hurt, and he knew that if he took revenge on David, it would only make Marites cry again. So, he set aside his anger for her sake.
While Rigor constantly threw hurtful words at her and reminded her how worthless she supposedly was as a wife and mother, Ramon did the opposite. With him, Marites was met with gentleness, with quiet affirmations, even if it still felt unfamiliar to her. There was one scene where Ramon told her she was a good woman and, more importantly, a good mother. And in that moment, he asked her to give their family with Tanggol a chance to be whole again.
It reached a point where Marites could no longer endure the hellish life she had with Rigor, who treated her like a prisoner in her own home. She called Ramon for help and decided to leave with him and move into the Montenegro mansion. She thanked Ramon, and he promised her that she would never be a prisoner or a servant under his roof. But he told her there was no need to thank him, because he was the one grateful to her for allowing him to be part of the changes happening in her life.
There was a moment when Marites began to worry about Tanggol’s safety, and it was Ramon who gave her the calm she needed, the kind of peace Rigor could never provide. Here was a man who assured her that everything would be alright because he was ready to step in and fix the mess for her. All Ramon really wanted was a chance to rebuild their family.
And like a hero, Ramon arrived at the mansion just in time after Rigor barged in and tried to take Marites with him. Ramon saw the fear in her eyes when she clung to him tightly, telling him she never wanted to go back to Rigor again. Ramon hugged her just as tightly to make her feel safe, and to let her know that by his side, she will always be protected.
