“Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition’s” AZ Martinez teamed up with Melai Cantiveros-Francisco for a fun but thought-provoking “Dakong Problema” challenge in the December 9 episode of the hit Bisaya online talk show “Kuan on One.”
In the game “AZ From the Heart,” the two were given 12 relationship situations, each to be answered using placards marked with “A” (green flag) or “Z” (red flag). AZ shared her straightforward takes, while Melai added her trademark humor and heartfelt insights to the circumstances.
For the first situation, both AZ and Melai raise the green flag for when a partner insists on splitting the bill on every date. Melai explained that she prefers ordering freely on a first date without worrying if the guy likes her, while AZ agreed, saying fairness matters. Both emphasized that treating each other and sharing expenses is a healthy balance in relationships.
When asked if it’s okay for a partner to ask how many friends you’ll be with and who you’re hanging out with, AZ and Melai again chose “A” for the green flag. For them, it’s simply about respect and safety. AZ noted, “Responsibilidad din ng babae na magsabi… para lang aware siya.” Melai echoed, “Magbigay ka rin ng respeto sa kanya dahil gusto lang niya na ligtas ka.”
The third scenario---leaving late at night without informing your partner and them being okay with it---was a clear red flag for both. AZ bluntly asked, “Wala ba silang pakialam?” while Melai stressed that concern is necessary in a relationship.
Meanwhile, the next situation sparked debate: Is it a green or red flag if your partner doesn’t post your pictures on social media because he wants to be lowkey? AZ and Melai admitted it depends. The two couldn't settle on a definite answer and later agreed that context matters---posting should be voluntary, not forced.
Another scenario asked if it's a green flag if your partner gives you his passwords but doesn’t require yours. For AZ and Melai, that’s definitely a green flag. “Very assured ka na niyan.” AZ said. “Ibig sabihin, may trust siya sa iyo,” Melai added that it’s up to you whether to reciprocate. AZ herself said she’s willing to share her passwords if needed, “Kung anong kailangan niya para sa assurance, ibibigay ko.”
The two ladies considered the sixth case a green flag when a partner notices you’re stressed and talks to you about it. AZ praised this as a sign of maturity and emotional intelligence. Melai even teased AZ, saying her description sounded just like her “PBB” ship, Ralph de Leon---earning laughs from AZ.
The discussion gets deeper as AZ and Melai tackled more complex scenarios.
An automatic red flag was raised when asked if it’s okay for a partner to demand you quit your job to care for children. Melai weighed the situation carefully, saying couples should consider circumstances and meet halfway. AZ agreed, explaining, “Open naman ako sa thought pero gusto ko kasing magtrabaho.” She added that while she’s open to focusing on her children when the time comes, she would still strive to balance career and family life.
When asked if it’s a red or green flag for a partner to restrict what you wear, both answered that it depends on the situation. They acknowledged that sometimes partners step in protectively, especially if an outfit is too revealing. As Melai put it, “Para hindi ka babastusin sa labas.”
Later on, AZ flagged it as a red sign when a partner avoids discussing conflicts and simply apologizes. “Kung mag-so-sorry ka pero gagawin mo pa rin, sorry lang tayo nang sorry? Hindi natin aayusin ang problema?” She stressed the importance of addressing issues early to prevent repeated misunderstandings. Melai, drawing from her long-term relationship experience, countered that some fights don’t need lengthy discussions, especially in marriage, “May mga away talagang hindi na kailangan pag-usapan… Kailangan na lang intindihin.”
For the scenario where a partner is brutally honest---even about things you don’t want to hear---both saw it as necessary. Melai explained, “Minsan, ayaw nating marinig ‘yung bad side natin pero kailangan marinig ‘yon.” AZ nodded in agreement.
The final situation asked if it’s okay for a partner to let you struggle first before helping. Both contemplated their exact answers. Melai appreciated that the partner still helps in the end, while AZ took note on the importance of independence, “Hindi pwedeng nakadepende ka sa kanya lagi.”
Melai praised AZ’s answers during the game, saying she’s now ready for a serious relationship, “Ganon dapat makipag-relasyon, hindi dapat pinangungunahan ng pride.” AZ admitted she had moments of immaturity in past relationships but thanked her "PBB" journey for helping her mature, “I think may ganong times talaga na naging immature tayo noon.”
Her “PBB” stint not only shaped her perspective but also opened doors for more opportunities. Currently, AZ is preparing for her upcoming series “The Secrets of Hotel 88,” a collaboration project between GMA and ABS-CBN featuring the “PBB Collab” housemates, set to premiere in 2026.
