There’s never a “Kuan On One” episode without sentimental recollections, bursts of laughter, linguistic discoveries, and meaningful life lessons that ‘Kuanizens’ can draw strength and comfort from.
Now in its fourth season, the second episode is as interesting and uplifting as ever, with ‘Kuantie’ Melai Cantiveros sharing the warmth of Bisaya life alongside her fellow celebrity and close friend, actor Matteo Guidicelli.
Matteo, a Cebuano at heart with Italian roots, was more than ready to join the “Ultimate Yawyaw” session, which began with Melai’s wholehearted praise for the actor’s humility, despite his soaring achievements in kart racing, entertainment, and business.
Melai described Matteo as a “Man of Prayer,” someone who intentionally places God at the center of everything he does, especially in his relationships. She went on to say that blessings seem to gravitate naturally toward him, particularly evident in his loving marriage to Asia’s Pop Royalty, Sarah Geronimo.
As the uniquely thoughtful discussion continued, Matteo reflected on the importance of spiritual connection, explaining that everyone has their own way of communicating with God—beyond simply reading the Bible—as long as one’s faith positively influences the way they live and love their family or partner. “When I run, that’s when I meditate,” he shared.
The touching segment transitioned to an energetic note, with Matteo leading the cheer for his favorite Bisaya phrase, “Basta Bisaya, Gahi!” Even the staff couldn’t help but chuckle when they repeated the Matteo-inspired slogan, in a demurer tone.
Besides its endearing pronunciation, “Gahi” carries, on a deeper level, the human quality of toughness and resilience, which only heightens its charm. “We can go through anything and everything [kahit na] mahirap… This is [a kind of] wisdom that will be taught to us,” Matteo conveyed.
Another remarkable point Matteo imparted was about gaining true wisdom, emphasizing that it cannot simply be read but must be personally experienced over time. “Ngayon tumanda na tayo, naiintindihan na natin ang wisdom… [it’s] only taught by life lessons and time. Pagdadaanan mo talaga ‘yan,” he explained.
