OPM icon Kyla, hailed as the Philippines’ Queen of R&B, is set to stage her much-anticipated concert The Kyla Soundscape: The Best of 25 Years at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati on October 18.
As she prepares to celebrate her 25th year in the music industry, Kyla admitted that the concert is both exciting and challenging.
“Yung title ng concert is Soundscape so ayon yung klase ng concert na gagawin ko challenging din, I can say. I never realized until the few weeks back na ang hirap pala nila kantahin. Challenging pala talaga. And it’s gonna be a fun night for everyone. It’s gonna be a fun night and hopefully maramdamanan nila yung heart ko when I celebrate my 25 years in the music industry,” she shared during the media conference for her new album.
Further sharing her preparations, Kyla told PUSH ABS-CBN how she found it challenging to do songs such as “Back To Bliss,” a song she personally wrote based on her own experience.
“I’m just really practicing the songs kasi ang hirap pala ng mga kanta ko,” she admitted. “Challenging talaga. I’ll be doing ‘Back To Bliss.’ It’s really really a hard song to sing so there will be many songs like that.”
Kyla revealed she has been very hands-on in selecting and arranging the songs for the show, making sure the setlist captures her journey as one of OPM’s R&B pioneer.
“I carefully handpicked every song doon sa repertoire namin sa concert. I talk to my musical director a lot kasi yung sa flow ng songs and how we want it to rearrange yung flow ng kanta kaya . I talk to him a lot. Pati yung pagkakasunod sunod ng kanta in terms of like how we choose the songs from beginning to end,” she said.
“There are songs na narinig na nila na naging hit na kinanta ko kasama rin. Kyla Soundscape talaga siya na everything they know about me, they will hear me sing. What do they like about my sound, it will be in the concert talaga,” she expressed.
The singer also teased fresh takes on her classics, including a more emotional version of her all-time hit “Hanggang Ngayon.”
“Mas mapanakit ang ‘Hanggang Ngayon’ and mahirap siya. Hindi madaling kantahin iyong kantang iyon,” she said.
Looking back on her career, Kyla laughed at the challenge of condensing more than two decades worth of music into one night.
“We really handpicked everything kasi madami pala akong kanta, hindi kaya sa isang concert lang kasi imagine in 11 albums, sobrang dami na songs na that I have done,” she laughingly said.

Meanwhile, Kyla recently made her long-awaited comeback to recording with her new album Next Episode, her first all-original release in seven years. She described the project as deeply personal, with songs meant to inspire and uplift.
“Sobrang tagal kong inabangan ang album na ito. We really worked so hard for this album, the whole process and all of it, the recording, the song writing. It's been a journey. It’s been really really great,” she told PUSH ABS-CBN.
