After releasing her first ever holiday song “When Christmas Comes” last month, Geneva Cruz started off the year with a bevy of projects lined up, starting with the upcoming musical film Nasaan Si Jesus.

The 48-year-old artist first got her start in the music industry after being discovered by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab to become part of his iconic singing group Smokey Mountain which made its debut in 1989. In 1992, she represented the country at "The Voice of Asia" in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, Russia, where she became the Grand Champion and still holds the record of being the youngest to win the title at the of 16.

This year, Geneva shared how she plans to celebrate the biggest milestone in her singing career, along with her fellow Smokey Mountain alumni and good friend Jeffrey Hidalgo.

“I will be celebrating my 35th year in the business by doing a concert at the Music Museum and birthday concert ko na din siya. Kasi birthday ko is April 2 and this will be on April 4 and 5 which will be directed by Jeffrey Hidalgo. Dito ipapakita namin kung anong pinaggagagawa ko sa buhay ko, yung triathlon, yung weight lifting, running, biking, and everything. Ilagay natin sa concert. Babalik naman tayo sa love songs kasi siyempre yung universal type of love. This will be right after my 49th birthday,” she said.

With some Smokey Mountain songs making its way back into public consciousness, with groups like BINI and BGYO performing their iconic songs like “Paraiso,” Geneva is very thankful for them helping make their sound relevant again to the new generation of Pinoy music lovers.

“Ang sarap ng pakiramdam kasi first of all, creation yan ng maestro, ni tito Ryan Cayabyab so labas kami kung anong gusto niya gawin sa mga kanta. Pero as an artist, I  really like the fact that the younger generation is singing our songs. Ang sarap kasi ibig sabihin classic na yung mga kanta and binibigyan nila ng bagong flavor. Even my daughter London who is 10 years old, ang favorite niyang kanta is ‘Kailan.’ As in, pag may karaoke, she will say, ‘Mommy, can you please sing Kailan?’ And then siyempre kilig na kilig ako na tawang tawa ako,” she shared.
