"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" smashed local box office records in the Philippines, earning nearly P96 million on its opening day, its local distributor said Thursday.

The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) grossed P95,930,965 on its first day in Philippine cinemas, making it Sony Pictures' biggest opening day in the country and the largest post-pandemic opening-day haul at the local box office, Columbia Pictures said in a statement.

The film also posted the third-biggest opening day of all time in the Philippines, trailing only fellow MCU offerings "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Infinity War."

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" follows Peter Parker — with Tom Holland reprising his role — as he navigates a world that no longer remembers him, struggling to balance controlling his powers while facing formidable new enemies.

REVIEW: ‘Brand New Day' delivers emotional new chapter for Spider-Man

The film is currently rated 91-percent fresh on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, with its critics consensus reading: "Spinning a web of spectacular set pieces together with mature emotional stakes and Tom Holland's soulful performance, 'Brand New Day' is a promising reset that portends Spidey will remain sticky on the big screen for years to come."
