Anne Hathaway shared an update on the highly anticipated third installment of The Princess Diaries.
During an interview on SiriusXM, the actress said that there is no definite timeline yet for when production on the movie will begin.
"I am busy making baby number three and that has sort of taking the place of knowing when I can exactly make Princess Diaries 3," she shared.
Anne announced in June that she and her husband, Adam Shulman, are expecting their third child.
Despite the absence of a fixed production schedule, Anne said the team had made significant progress on the script.
"But I can say I think we had a story breakthrough. I think that we are moving in the right direction," she relayed.
Anne also revealed that the creative team had decided to start over with a new direction for the screenplay.
"The script we were working on, we kinda had a start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants. But we all feel really good that it is gonna be the one," she said.
Back in April, Anne confirmed during a guest appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show that a third Princess Diaries movie was in the works.
"We will make it. There's no way that cannot happen. It has to happen," she revealed. "I just feel like I have to say this. I'm sorry it's taking so long."
Reports about a third installment date back to 2022, when Variety reported that a new film in the franchise was in development.

Anne first played Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries. The film follows Mia, a socially awkward teenager who discovers that she is the heir to the throne of the fictional kingdom of Genovia.
She reprised the role in the 2004 sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, in which Princess Mia faces the pressures of royal duty, including the prospect of an arranged marriage.
