“How dare you daring me like a dairy cream?”
This comedic line was delivered by Arci (Vice Ganda) in the 2016 comedy-action film The Super Parental Guardians, directed by award-winning filmmaker Joyce Bernal.
The film follows the story of two very different men who unexpectedly become guardians of two children. Arci, a kind but quirky man, promises his best friend Sarah (Matet De Leon), that he will take care of her children Megan (Awra Briguela) and Ernie (Onyok Pineda). However, Sarah’s strict and protective brother Paco (Coco Martin), also wants to look after them. Because of this, Arci and Paco find themselves living under the same roof and sharing the responsibility of raising the children. Megan and Arci also found themselves hanging out with each other even though their personalities constantly clash.

The now-iconic line appears during one of the film’s most memorable comedic sequences, a playful “food war” between Arci and Megan. In the scene, the two unexpectedly decide to give snacks to construction workers taking a break while working on their home. Both of them arrive with a pan of spaghetti. What should have been a simple act of generosity quickly turns into a hilarious competition about whose spaghetti tastes better.
The playful rivalry begins when they ask the workers if they want spaghetti and then exchange irritated glances at each other. Arci immediately asks Megan if she is trying to compete with him, and Megan confidently challenges him back. Determined to prove her dish is superior, Megan proudly describes her spaghetti as something special, saying the sauce was made from freshly picked tomatoes from the high mountains of Italy, making the dish sound luxurious and sophisticated.
Arci quickly counters with an even more exaggerated description of his own spaghetti. He claims it is made with banana ketchup packed with “healthy” ingredients such as antioxidants, antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, glutathione, silymarin extract, and ginkgo biloba. His ridiculous list of ingredients only makes the moment funnier as he tries to outdo Megan’s fancy explanation.
The competition escalates when Arci introduces chicken lollipops as a side dish, claiming they are made from fresh spring chicken fried in olive oil. Megan quickly criticizes his offering and attempts to raise the stakes again by presenting the dessert ginataang bilo-bilo she says she “concocted”, a Filipino delicacy made of coconut cream with glutinous rice balls and jackfruit.
Arci mocks the dessert and jokingly calls it “jologs,” adding that it is the kind of food served during Holy Week pabasa gatherings. The insult makes Megan furious, prompting her to be more dramatic, saying “How dare you!” before Arci blurts out the now unforgettable line: “How dare you daring me like a dairy cream?”
Just as their over-the-top argument reaches its peak, Paco suddenly interrupts them and scolds the two for fighting again. Arci immediately pretends nothing happened, insisting they were only joking before quickly inviting the construction workers to eat the spaghetti, attempting to hide the chaos that had just unfolded.
The scene was meant to portray a comedic food battle that highlights the playful but competitive relationship between Arci and Megan. Through exaggerated descriptions, sarcastic exchanges, and theatrical reactions, the moment showcases the humorous dynamic between the characters while also showing how they work together to take care of others despite their constant teasing.
The line became widely loved because of its clever wordplay and the way it underscores Vice Ganda’s remarkable skill in delivering comedy. The absurd phrasing, paired with expressive timing and delivery, turned a simple insult into a memorable punchline that audiences could easily recall and repeat.
It also demonstrated the It’s Showtime host’s ability to sustain humor throughout an entire sequence without breaking character. The script itself cleverly tapped into Filipino humor by blending exaggerated storytelling, playful insults, and everyday conversational language, creating a comedic rhythm that felt both spontaneous and familiar.
The scene resonated strongly with Filipino audiences because of its relatability. Friendly arguments, exaggerated reactions, and playful teasing are common in Filipino households and gatherings, particularly around food. By turning something as ordinary as spaghetti into a dramatic competition, the scene reflected the kind of humor many viewers recognize in their own daily interactions.

Because of its relatability and catchy wordplay, the line continued to gain popularity even years after the film’s release. The scene was widely dubbed across social media platforms, particularly on TikTok, where it became one of Vice’s most recognizable comedic lines.
Social media content creator Patrise Calumpag, known for smoothly dubbing famous movie and television lines, also created her own version of the scene which eventually gained 6.9 million views.
Awra even joined the fun by commenting on the video, writing, “PAKKKKKK!! YASSSSSS GHORL.” Patrise responded playfully, “Sizzz gusto ko ring makatikim ng ispageting may freshly picked tomatoes from the high mountains of Italy! 😝”
The enduring popularity of the scene eventually led to a special moment for fans when Awra and Vice themselves reenacted it in 2023. The video, uploaded on Awra’s TikTok account, delighted netizens who enjoyed seeing the two celebrities revisit the comedic exchange that had become a fan favorite.
“Oh! Ayan na spaghetti nyo,” Awra wrote in the caption.
Beyond its viral popularity, The Super Parental Guardians also achieved significant milestones in Philippine cinema. The film earned recognition for Awra, who won Best Child Film Actor at the Platinum Stallion Awards in 2017. Vice and Coco were also honored as Phenomenal Stars of Philippine Cinema at the Box-Office Entertainment Awards presented by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, while Direk Joyce was recognized as Most Popular Film Director.
Despite being excluded from the Metro Manila Film Festival 2016, the film went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time in the Philippines, earning close to ₱600 million worldwide in just five weeks of theatrical release.
