MANILA — The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has extended its theatrical run until January 14, 2025.
The MMFF made the decision following "calls for an extension by numerous movie enthusiasts and the general public."
In a statement, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman and concurrent MMFF overall Chairman Don Artes thanked moviegoers for supporting the festival.
The festival was initially supposed to end on Wednesday, January 7.
“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” said Artes.
MMFF complimentary passes will also be honored until January 14.
Artes shared that MMDA is hopeful that the 2024 MMFF earnings will continue to increase.
Organized by the MMDA, the MMFF, which is now on its 50th edition, aims to promote Philippine cinema and enhance its preservation.
Proceeds from the festival will go to beneficiaries in the film industry, such as the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund), the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
Last December, the MMFF 2024 winners were announced with prison drama "Green Bones" sweeping the major awards.
