Kapamilya stars Robi Domingo and Gela Atayde, along with judges Vimi Rivera and Ken San Jose, recently discussed their new Kapamilya dance survival show, Time To Dance, where they shared their excitement about providing a platform for the local dance community in the Philippines.
During a media conference on Thursday, January 16, Gela expressed how personal and important the show is to her.
“This is a passion project of mine. It was pitched to me na magka-dance show,” Gela said. “This is also somehow an advocacy project for me.”
Being part of a local dance group who gave pride to the Philippines, Gela explained that the show focuses on the stories of the local dance community and showcases their skills and journeys.
“It’s also to really involve the Philippine dance community,” Gela explained. “That’s also sets us apart from other dance show is that we really give importance to the dance community mismo na sobrang involves talaga sila.”
Robi also highlighted the show's inspiring potential for aspiring dancers.
“Ang mapapanood natin dito ay iba’t ibang mga tao na iba’t iba yung mga problema, iba’t ibang edad na ang goal of life ay sumayaw at hindi pa huli ang lahat dahil sa programang ito,” he shared.
“Very timely ito kasi yung last dance show ng ABS-CBN ay World of Dance and the last dance segment is Girl on Fire sa It’s Showtime na sobrang lakas din ng appeal.”.
In addition to Robi and Gela as hosts, the show will feature prominent figures from the dance world, including coach Vimi Rivera and dancer-turned-judge Ken San Jose.
Ken, reflecting on his journey from being a World of Dance contestant to a judge, expressed his honor in being part of Time To Dance.
“I feel so honored especially being with Coach Vimi, Gela and of course Kuya Robi. It’s really nice that I get to be a part of this and share my input with the contestants,” he said.
Coach Vimi emphasized the importance of the show as a platform for dancers.
“Given this platform, it is very important also to bridge the gap between the TV and commercial industry with the local dance community,” Coach Vimi expressed.
“Before, it has improved leaps and bounds the understanding of the art, the street dance specifically... I’m very grateful also na nagkaroon na ng understanding and better respect to the dance community and to the dancers,” he added.
Coach Vimi also shared that the show gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of local dancers, showing not just their skills, but also the hard work and passion behind their craft.
“It’s not just a dance competition or a survival dance competition na ang focus lang kung sinong pinakamagaling or sino kasali but at the same time with that we are trying our best to showcase the whole dance community para makita rin ng general public what we are about and gaano kataas the art form and hours that we give and really improving our skills,” he shared.
Time to Dance premieres on Saturday, January 18, airing on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z. It is produced by ABS-CBN Studios and Nathan Studios.
