This line was spoken by Juancho, portrayed by Joshua Garcia in the 2024 romantic drama Un/Happy For You, directed by Petersen Vargas.
The film follows former lovers Zy (Julia Barretto) and Juancho, who unexpectedly cross paths again in Bicol years after a painful breakup that left both carrying emotional scars they never fully addressed.
At the start of their relationship, the two shared big dreams for the future.
Juancho was an aspiring chef determined to someday build a restaurant of his own, while Zy wanted to pursue journalism and create a successful career for herself. But as both tried to chase their ambitions, their relationship slowly became uneven.
Before Zy left for New York to pursue bigger opportunities, Juancho asked her to marry him, hoping they could build a future together. But Zy turned down the proposal, choosing instead to follow the career path she had long dreamed of.
Not long after arriving abroad, Zy cut ties with Juancho, making him believe she had fallen for another man and chosen to permanently leave him behind. The heartbreak deeply affected Juancho.
Believing the woman he loved had abandoned him for someone else, he buried himself in work and pushed harder toward achieving his dream, determined to prove that he could succeed despite being left behind.
Years later, fate unexpectedly brings them together again.
Juancho is no longer the struggling dreamer Zy once knew. After years of hard work, he has become the successful chef behind Casa Rosa, a restaurant known for celebrating Bicolano flavors. Meanwhile, Zy has returned home to do some research on her article and is now engaged to Matt (Victor Silayan).
Seeing Zy again immediately forces Juancho to confront years of anger he thought he had already buried. For Zy, however, she continues believing that choosing her dreams years ago was not something she should apologize for.
As the two reconnect, old wounds begin reopening. Juancho repeatedly points out the pain he carried after being abandoned, while Zy slowly starts confronting the guilt she has long kept hidden.
Eventually, Juancho directly confronts her about leaving him for another man in New York. But in a shocking revelation, Zy admits she never cheated on him.
The lie, she reveals, was intentional as she wanted Juancho to stop begging her to come back, believing that hurting him in that way was the only way she could finally walk away. But the truth runs even deeper.
Unknown to Juancho, Zy had actually sacrificed her own future years earlier to support his dreams. Before eventually pursuing New York, she had postponed her scholarship and used the money she had saved to help fund Juancho’s dream of building a restaurant.
While Juancho focused entirely on his own ambitions, Zy quietly kept setting aside her own future so she could help him succeed. Eventually, the exhaustion caught up with her.
Realizing she had spent years prioritizing Juancho’s future while slowly losing sight of herself, Zy finally chose to leave and pursue the life she had continuously postponed for someone else. Even while still loving him, she endured the pain of making him believe she had betrayed him.
After learning that she never actually cheated, Juancho begins questioning everything he thought he knew. But when he pushes harder to understand why she chose to hide the truth for years, Zy simply asks him what the point is of knowing and what difference it would make knowing now.
And it is during this emotionally explosive confrontation that Juancho finally says the now-iconic line: “Anong point? Ang point sinaktan mo ‘ko, niloko mo ‘ko, at hanggang ngayon niloloko mo ‘ko.”
The line immediately struck audiences because beneath the anger was something far deeper than betrayal.
Juancho was not simply asking why Zy lied, but he was confronting years of emotional damage caused by believing he was abandoned, cheated on, and left questioning his own worth. For him, knowing the truth mattered because the pain he carried for years had shaped the way he saw himself.
The line captured a difficult reality many people understand in heartbreak, that sometimes the deepest pain comes not from separation itself, but from believing a false narrative for years and building resentment around something that was never true.
As Juancho continues pushing for answers, Zy finally reveals how emotionally draining their relationship had become. She explains that while she was helping Juancho pursue his ambitions, she had unknowingly become responsible for carrying both of their futures.
Instead of feeling like equal partners, she felt forced into constantly taking care of someone who had become too dependent on her sacrifices. Zy admits she ended the relationship not because she stopped loving Juancho, but because staying meant continuing to lose herself.
After hearing the full truth, Juancho finally understands the role he played in their downfall. He realizes that in chasing his own ambitions, he had unknowingly become selfish, expecting love to keep sustaining him while failing to notice the sacrifices being made for him.
The confrontation ultimately forces both to confront painful truths about themselves. As they slowly reconnect, old feelings begin resurfacing.
Juancho helps Zy with her work while Zy accompanies him in meetings with investors as he prepares to expand his restaurant in Manila. But despite their renewed connection, both realize that love alone is not enough to fix everything that has broken within them individually.
Eventually, after complications in Zy’s relationship with Matt and an emotional reunion between the two former lovers, both come to the same realization: before they can ever love each other properly again, they first need to rebuild themselves.
And that ultimately became one of the film’s biggest messages.
Sometimes love fails not because feelings disappear, but because people lose themselves while trying too hard to hold on. The film explores how relationships can become unhealthy when sacrifice is no longer mutual.
Julia's performance captured the quiet pain of loving someone so deeply that you begin sacrificing your own identity just to help them survive. Meanwhile, Joshua portrayed the difficult truth that ambition and passion, when left unchecked, can sometimes turn into selfishness when a person becomes too consumed by their own dreams to notice the people sacrificing beside them.
The film also became particularly meaningful because it marked the onscreen reunion of the former real-life couple.
The two dated in 2017 before eventually breaking up in 2019, making Un/Happy For You their first major project together after their separation.
Many viewers noted how their real-life history seemed to add emotional depth and maturity to their performances. At one point during filming, Joshua had an emotional breakdown after his breakup scene, continuing to cry even after the director had already called cut, a moment that many viewers later praised as proof of his deep commitment to the role.
During the film’s thanksgiving party in 2024, Joshua openly thanked Julia for sharing the difficult journey of making the film together.
“Gusto kong magpasalamat sa ‘yo, thank you for doing this whole journey with me. Hindi mo ako iniwan, magkasama tayo sa laban na ito. Maraming salamat and hopefully this is not our last,” Joshua said to Julia.
Julia also expressed gratitude to Joshua for their professionalism throughout filming.
“Thank you Josh for this super crazy experience. But I feel like hindi natin malalampasan yun kung hindi tayo nagtulungan. Thank you also for being open. Thank you for being present and patient.”
The pair also thanked director Petersen for helping guide them through emotionally difficult moments while making the film.
“Thank you so much Direk P because you created a safe space for Joshua and I, siyempre hindi exact naging madali ito para sa aming dalawa but you made a safe space and you made it like we can trust you, we can be honest with you, and you never judged us," said Julia, adding: “Pag-nahihirapan kami, hinahawakan mo yung kamay namin para lang magawa namin yung eksena. So, thank you. Thank you for not giving up on us.”
The film proved to be a major success, earning ₱//20.5 million on its opening day and becoming the biggest opening gross for a Filipino film that year.
In 2025, Joshua and Julia were recognized with the Box Office Hero Award during the 8th Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards.
