Kapamilya actress and TV host Anne Curtis had a candid and unforgettable “Andy Sachs” moment after she tripped in front of Hollywood stars Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep during the press tour of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in Tokyo, Japan.
Anne, alongside social media personality Mimiyuuuh, attended the international press event where she got the chance to meet and interview the two beloved actresses up close. The moment, however, came with a lighthearted twist that the Kapamilya star later shared with fans.
In a video she posted on Instagram, Anne could be seen excitedly approaching the actresses, even sharing a brief exchange with Anne (Hathaway), who playfully introduced herself as having the same name. Moments later, Anne was invited to pose for a photo before the interview. As she stepped toward the center to stand between them, she accidentally tripped over what appeared to be a metal stand.
Trying to quickly recover, Anne attempted to pick up the object and immediately apologized. The moment was met with warmth and humor from the Hollywood stars.
Meryl took it lightly, saying, “You’re not the first. You won’t be the last.”
Anne (Hathaway), meanwhile, helped her get back on her feet and even jokingly kicked the metal stand aside, drawing laughter from everyone in the room. The staff also reassured Anne not to worry, keeping the atmosphere relaxed and easygoing.
Looking back on the experience, Anne described it as something straight out of the iconic film.
“A dream interview with actresses I absolutely admire. Had my Andy Sachs moment as soon as I walked in 🤦🏻♀️ ako lang talaga e noh? Of all times!!!! Haha,” Anne wrote in her post referencing to Anne (Hathaway)‘s character in the film, Andy, who is known to be sweet but awkward during the film’s initial moments in its first franchise in 2006.
She admitted that the brief incident initially left her feeling nervous, recalling how her heart raced as the interview began. In the video, Anne could be seen taking a moment to compose herself with her voice slightly shaking at first.
“After that my heart rate was hitting to roof, until their warmth took over,” she continued.
Despite the shaky start, the Kapamilya star soon eased into the conversation and found her rhythm. She highlighted how The Devil Wears Prada, first released 20 years ago, inspired an entire generation to pursue careers in fashion, herself included.
Meryl, who reprises her role as the formidable Miranda Priestly, reflected on how the world has evolved since the film’s original release.
“Well, it's been a journey. The world has changed. iPhone has been invented the year after we came out. The world of journalism, the world of television – everything has changed. And our film talks about how that has an impact on fashion,” she said.
Anne (Hathaway), in turn, expressed her appreciation for hearing how the film influenced viewers like Anne.
“Isn’t that incredible? Just to hear you talk about it. The idea that it made you see a version of yourself out there in the world, it’s incredible,” she said.
She also shared advice for a new generation of viewers, encouraging them to stay grounded and authentic.
“It’s so funny because it came up during a time when I had no interest in fitting in. I didn’t have that kind of pressure coming at me... I would love to be able to give myself back then is, that time in your life, people are looking at you and it’s so big. When those feelings come, it’s always so much better to just make it about other people. If you’re starting to feel overwhelming, ask somebody else about theirs,” Anne (Hathaway) maintained.
Anne, still amused by her earlier mishap, joked about wishing she had heard that advice sooner.
“I wish I heard that before walking into this room,” she said, which drew laughter from the actresses.
Beyond the candid moment, Anne underscored how meaningful the experience was for her.
“As an actress myself, it was such an honor to meet them. I was part of the generation shaped by The Devil Wears Prada 20 years ago and I can’t wait to see the sequel on the big screen,” she wrote on her Instagram post.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites its original creative team, including director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and introduces a new lineup of cast members such as Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles.
