BTS RM is once again winning hearts online, this time for a candid and unexpectedly relatable confession about his driving skills.
The BTS leader recently went viral after openly sharing that despite earning his driver’s license last year, he still finds parking a challenge. On March 26, RM appeared alongside fellow member Suga on hip-hop trio Epik High’s YouTube channel for their episode titled “Asking BTS all the questions we were NOT allowed to ask.”
During the casual conversation, host Tablo could not help but tease RM about his decision to learn how to drive.
"Why did you even learn to drive? We’re both bad with directions. Weren’t we supposed to form a ‘bad sense of direction alliance’?" Tablo said, referencing RM’s long-running reputation among fans for getting lost easily.
RM responded with honesty. "People around me were seeing me as being too immature...I was proud right after I got it (license) [but] I just put it straight in the drawer. I mean, I can’t park."
His candid admission immediately drew laughter in the studio. Fellow Epik High member Tukutz added to the fun, joking, "Only go to places with valet parking."
The lighthearted moment quickly went viral online, with fans praising RM for his relatability. Many pointed out the amusing contrast of a global icon admitting such a common, everyday struggle.
It can be recalled that back in December, RM shared on social media that he had finally obtained his driver’s license at the age of 31. One photo showed him seated inside a car, quietly taking a selfie, while another confirmed he had officially secured a standard Class 2 driver’s license in South Korea.
Earlier, BTS also treated fans to a full-group livestream on Weverse, where RM casually broke the news himself.
“Everyone, I, Kim Nam-joon, got my driver’s license,” he said.
His fellow members were quick to react, with J-Hope teasing him about rumors that he had failed the test once. RM laughed and admitted it.
“I crossed the center line while making a U-turn. The paint was faded," he shared, adding that he had to retake the road test. “I can drive, but I can’t park. I need more practice.”
Beyond the laughs, what struck fans the most was RM’s sincere reason for pursuing the milestone.
“I don’t plan on buying my own car,” he said. “I just wanted to try it. I wanted to overcome my trauma.”
Meanwhile, BTS continues to make waves on the global stage. The group recently mounted a massive return through a free comeback concert on March 21, drawing the largest public crowd of the decade at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
Their latest album, Arirang, also proved to be a record-breaking success, recently debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This marks BTS’ seventh chart-topping album, following previous No. 1 releases such as Proof (2022), BE (2020), MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 (2020), MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA (2019), Love Yourself ‘Answer’ (2018), and Love Yourself ‘Tear’ (2018).
