After winning in the reality talent competition Drag Race Philippines last year, Maxie Andreison returns to the big screen in the romantic comedy film Flower Girl this month. The talented drag queen and singer talked to PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview about her new project and just how thankful she is to always have the support of her father Angel Galang Jr. throughout her drag queen journey.
Unlike many members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Maxie revealed how privileged she feels for never having to feel like she had to formally come out to her father. “I love talking to my father. Ang saya ng relationship ko sa tatay ko kasi hindi ako nag-come out sa kanya. Very supportive talaga siya since the day I was born in this world. Hindi niya ako kinuwestiyon, hindi niya ako pinagtabuyan. Hindi niya tinanong kung anong kasarian ako. Mahal niya ako bilang anak,” she revealed PUSH ABS-CBN.

She first started joining singing contests as a child, way before doing drag. Maxie said her father has always been on her side unquestionably for as long as she can remember. “Sa lahat ng mga ginawa ko, sa mga amateur singing contests, throughout this journey, siya talaga ang kasama ko, ang kasangga ko. I never had to come out sa kanya. Kasi alam na niya eh. May tita akong transgender din na kapatid niya. So dun pa lang may experience na siya. Dun pa lang sa kapatid niya naging open na siya. Hindi lang ako ang anak niyang bakla. Tatlo kami, confirmed (laughs). Anim kami. So panganay ako. Si Angel yung pangalawa sa akin, nakalaban ko din sa Drag Race. Tapos si Otto yung bunso naming kapatid,” she explained.
One of the 25-year-old artist’s most unforgettable memories with her father Angel growing up involved them commuting home together when she was still a minor. She remembered her father never showing that he was embarrassed to be with her in public. “I joined an amateur singing contest sa Batangas and pauwi na kami nun. Hindi ko na binura ‘yung makeup ko sa sobrang pagod. Pauwi kami tapos sumakay kami ng bus. Ang dami-daming lalake, ang dami-daming tao. Tapos kandong-kandong niya ako. Natutulog ako sa kanya ng naka-makeup. Mga nine, ten years old ako, ganyan. Sobrang lucky ko sa tatay ko,” she recalled.

In one post on Instagram in 2018, after her father went up on stage during a show, Maxie wrote just how thankful she was for his presence in her life.“Taos pusong pasasalamat na simula pa noong bata pa ako hanggang ngayon ako'y patuloy ninyong sinusuportahan . Sa kahit ano man ang gawin ko basta't alam nyong masaya kame ng kapatid ko masaya din kayo . Lahat ng ito'y para sa inyo mama at papa . Na nagpalaki sa akin ng matino . Simula sa umpisa hanggang sa dulo , tayo'y magmamahalan at mamahalin ko kayo hanggang sa dulo ng aking buhay 😘 maraming maraming salamat sa inyo mga mabubuti kong magulang . Salamat sa pagtanggap sa amin kung ano man kame , sa pag iintindi sa amin . Hinding hindi namen kayo papabayaan 😘Mahal na mahal ko kayo 🤗”
