Comedian Isko Salvador, popularly known as Brod Pete, spent most of his life bringing laughter to people. But behind his effortlessly comedic persona lies a cool father who wants everything light inside the family.
During his recent guest appearance on Aiko Melendez‘s vlog, he revealed that he is not a strict father, emphasizing that he doesn’t want to impose his views on his children.

“Ayoko ng may na-pe-pressure sa akin, dahil sa akin, or may na-se-stress dahil sa akin. Kahit sa ibang tao, lalo na sa mga anak ko, ayoko na-se-stress [sila],” he said.
“Kaya nga ako nag-comedy eh, masaya lang tayo rito,” he added.
Contrary to his funny and loud personality on stage, Brod Pete is usually the quiet one at home. “Tahimik ako sa bahay kasi nag-iisip ako ng nakakatawa. ‘Yun lang kasi ang [trabaho] ko eh, kaya wala akong naging ibang trabaho, comedy lang diba? Sabi ko ang saya nito, tawanan lang.”
When asked about his plans for Father’s Day, he gave an answer that most dads could relate to. “Hindi ako nag-pa-plano, sila ang nagpaplano eh. Nagbabayad lang ako.”
For Brod Pete, comedy is his life, and he loves making people happy.
However, the comedian underscored that comedy is a self-taught profession. “‘Yung mahirap lang sa comedy, walang eskwelahan. ‘Di ba lahat meron? Doktor, engineer, nurse, lahat meron eh. Physical therapist, caregiver... (pero ‘yung comedy) walang eskwelahan. ‘Yung music meron pa eh, ‘yung [Conservatory of Music]. ‘Yung comedy wala, kanya-kanyang aral.”
During the interview, he also highlighted that comedians leverage their personal experiences and observations when making punchlines.
“Alam mo ‘yung mga komedyante, parang mga psychologists ‘yan eh,” he said. “‘Yung mga insights nila sa human behavior, comedy ‘yun kasi mga observer ‘yan eh. Doon ka makakakuha ng comedy.”
If Brod Pete has an icon that he looks up to, it’s none other than the King of Philippine Comedy, the late Rodolfo Vera Quizon or Dolphy.
In the same interview with Aiko, he recalled how Dolphy influenced him to become good at his craft.
“Ang tagal ko nakasama si Pidol (Dolphy),“ he shared. “Daddy ko ‘yun eh.”
“Buong buhay ko inobserbahan ko siya kasi fan ako sa simula’t simula. Noong una ko lang nakita ‘yun, diyos ang tingin ko sa kanya, nanginginig ako, para akong may malaria, at saka nagtatago ako, ayoko na makita niya ako,” he recalled.
“Inobserbahan ko siya, bakit siya nakakatawa. Mula John eh Marsha hanggang sa huling sitcom niya, magkasama kami yung Pidol’s Wonderland,” he added.

In 2022, he announced his resignation in show business after 43 years of service. But on the vlog, he said that he still accepts corporate shows until now.
