Kapamilya singer Zsa Zsa Padilla opened up about the joy and excitement she felt during her anniversary concert Through the Years held last May 17.
In an interview on her daughter Karylle’s podcast channel K’s Drama, Zsa Zsa shared how it felt to finally stage the long-awaited show, which had been delayed due to her health.
“When I started this show really, the thought that came to me was ‘Ang kapal ng mukha mo. Hindi ka man nanginginig,'” Zsa Zsa recalled. “I was like, ‘What’s going on? Hindi man lang nanginginig yung mic.’ Because I was just so happy. I was not nervous but I was just giddy with excitement.”
Zsa Zsa admitted that even before the show started, she already felt a renewed spark for performing on stage.
“It’s been a long time since I feel that way,” she shared. “I felt a spark, you know, that to renew this, something that you love.”
Holding the microphone in her hands, she was even surprised by her own calmness, adding, “I was holding the mic and I was like, ‘Hindi ka talaga nininerbyos? Really?' Ibang klase rin.”
The singer also credited her confidence to the support of her loved ones and the comfort she felt with her concert repertoire.
“I was just confident with the materials, and I had my little club going, the Senior’s Club,” she expressed.
Seeing her friends and family in the audience inspired her to give her all.
“It was inspiring to have all of you there. I could see it from where I was, at the stage. I could see everybody,” she stated.
“I’m excited about everything that I do about music now and it really shows pala because you’re inspired,” she expressed.
Zsa Zsa also hinted at plans to take the concert on tour, saying, “We hope to tour the show…. I woke up with a feeling that I was just so grateful”
Karylle, who watched her mom perform, praised her radiance onstage.
“We were just like looking at you physically beautiful also you're beaming with joy and also your aura is just like radiating and then you sound so amazing,” Karylle said. “It was just like a perfect combo.”
She also noted how Zsa Zsa’s partner, architect Conrad Onglao, added to her mom’s glow. She expressed how he saw Conrad looking at Zsa Zsa with so much love as she performed during the show.
“I also want to, at this point, mention that he really supported your concert and he was just so happy watching you beautiful in all ways because you’re beautiful,” Karylle expressed.
“It was beautiful to see him so in love with you also,” she added. “It was so cute and so sweet that you know that there is love that you can experience from beside and it’s nice.”
The ASAP mainstay also spoke about embracing aging gracefully, especially in the entertainment industry.
“Some people like making sounds like getting older is the end of it all, ‘Matanda ka na, just retire,'” she shared. “I feel in my journey; I have slowly brought them to the level of what I can do now. I’ve never been a biritera so parang this is what I can do.”
Zsa Zsa explained that she now adjusts her arrangements to match her current vocal range.
“I’m just, I guess, I’m totally honest. When I have arrangements and I go, ‘Oh, it’s going a whole note higher now,’ I just try it and then I see if it’s a pleasant sound and if it’s not and then I go, ‘I don’t think we should go there. Can you make it that higher pero kaunti lang,’ mga half note lang,” she added.
“There are adjustments, and you should because you’ve changed. I don’t feel bad, and I don’t think I have to be apologetic for it because this is me now.”
The singer also expressed pride in her latest album Pag Tinadhana, stating, “I just finished mine. I finished an album which is I'm very proud of because the sound is new,” she stated.
Zsa Zsa revealed that she will be releasing music videos for some of the tracks, including “Hinihiling” and “Never Be Alone,” the latter featuring her daughter Zia Quizon.
