MANILA - Actress-host Kris Aquino, sister of the late President Benigno Aquino III, has shared a video on Instagram showing her struggle with lupus flare fever for the past two weeks.
"This is MY NOW… i wanted you to see the pain and struggle so that you will continue to pray. I have a Lupus Flare fever now. It’s been more than 2 weeks," Aquino wrote on Instagram.
The video showed a visibly thinner Aquino with slight bruises on her arms and legs and red spots on her face. She also showed her temperature reaching 38.5 degrees Celsius.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues and organs, causing inflammation and potential damage.
A lupus "flare" or "flare up" is a measurable increase in disease activity in one or more organ systems involving new or worse clinical signs and symptoms and/or lab measurements, according to the Lupus Foundation of America.
Aquino has been diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis, chronic spontaneous urticaria, Churg Strauss/EGPA, systemic sclerosis, and lupus.
