Miley Cyrus finally shared the story behind her engagement to musician Maxx Morando, revealing that the proposal took place during their recent trip to Asia.
In an interview on Good Morning America, Miley admitted she was genuinely shocked, something she said rarely happens.
"I am not easy to surprise because I love to control every situation and I had completely surrender. And I am telling you, I was so, so, so surprised," she said.
Miley was spotted wearing a ring during the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 1 (US time) before the confirmation of her engagement. The pop star performs the movie's theme, "Dream As One."
"My life has been perfectly aligned with the release of Avatar, my personal life. Those two things kind of I could say marrying each other and harmonizing with one another," she stated.
The pop star added that the themes of the film resonated deeply with what she was experiencing in her personal life at the time.
"When I came back home, I went straight into the kind of Pandora Avatar world. People think of it as a film that's kind of larger than life, at this grand scale, but actually at the heart of Avatar it's really about relationships, love, having each other's back and so it actually felt very aligned with my life," she remarked.

In her May 2023 interview with British Vogue, Miley revealed that she first met Maxx on a blind date. "We got put on a blind date. Well, it was blind for me and not really for him. I thought, 'The worst that can happen is I leave," she recounted.
Miley also reflected on her growth in choosing a partner during a conversation with her mother Tish and her sisters Brandi and Noah for The Cut in September.
"Mom's always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy 'cause they’re hot," Miley recalled.
Reflecting on how much she has grown, Miley said of her relationship with Maxx: "I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me. I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself. I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves. Mom was like, 'They need to be tall.' My man's hot as hell too. But my man also respects me."
Miley and Maxx had been dating four years before their engagement.
Maxx is presently the drummer of the band Liily.
He collaborated with Miley on several musical projects, including "Handstand" and "Violet Chemistry" from her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation.
Maxx also contributed to Miley's latest album, Something Beautiful, released this year. "Had the privilege of helping produce and write a handful of tunes on the sickest project I have ever been apart of. Thank you to Miley, Shawn, Rado, Michael, Max, Ethan, Ian, Piece, JC, Pino, and all the musicians that played on this record, and having me be apart of it. This record smacks," he posted on Instagram back in May.
