On a little rainy Wednesday afternoon, veteran actress Dina Bonnevie met with some showbiz journalists to express her gratitude for the success of the first season of her YouTube show "House of D," with season two set to premiere October 17.
In typical Bonnevie flair, she showed up looking stunning as usual and made a shady remark when asked about the nepo babies, whose family members have been implicated in the Philippines' corruption scandal.
Bonnevie, who is not new to political conversations having been married to her late public servant husband, said, in a sassy manner while keeping it real like she always does, “Diyos ko! Minsan nga, lumalabas ang katarayan ko!”
“Diyos ko. Kung makapag-flex nung nepo [babies], maganda ka ba?” she added in a humorous tone.
Airing her concern about the lack of remorse of the nepo babies, who have been the subject of online hot topics for displaying luxury while poor people struggle, she continued, “Eh kahit na retokehin kita ng limang beses, hindi ka pa rin maganda, eh. My God! Sino ang doctor mo? Magpa-doctor ka muna bago mag-flex.”
The seasoned movie star then discussed how some people, particularly nepo babies, have an unhealthy fascination with material possessions.
“That's just a sign of covetousness. You want to covet what is not yours, which is a sin. Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's goods. So ‘yung nebo babies, nag-covet ng hindi sa kanila kasi nakaw ‘yung pinangdi-display nila ng mga Dior (luxury brand) na ‘yan,” she passionately expressed.
She added, “Ang sarap naman na kung mayroon kang ipagmamayabang is dahil galing sa hard work. Pero ‘yung point ko is, if all the young people would focus on number one, their studies, number two, good moral values… So, parang, ano ba ‘yan? ‘Di ba makikita mo roon na iba na ‘yung values ng tao?”
At the conclusion of the conversation about nepotism, Bonnevie remarked that people who are endowed with immense wealth and power should use it for good, as well as her appeal to them not to steal.
“‘Di ba parang Miss Universe? You use your crown to promote charity, to promote good things. Sana ganoon lahat ng attitude ng mga nepo babies. Magmala-beauty queen attitude ka na [parang], ‘I'm here to spread love.’ Use the platform. Use the platform to do good things,” she said.
And, in typical Bonnevie manner (again), she added, “Kahit hindi sila maganda!”
