CANDON, Ilocos Sur — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has praised the Candon City government's hosting of the ongoing 2026 AVC Women’s Cup.
PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio said he expected the “beautiful” handling of the local government unit of the AVC tourney, which will run until June 14 at the Candon City Arena.
“Obviously, talaga namang expected ko na ‘to — it will be a very beautiful hosting. Candon City, sila Mayor Eric Singson, sanay na sanay mag-host ng international events,” said Gregorio on Monday, facing reporters at the arena.

“Everybody loves Candon na. When you talk about sports hosting, it's Candon City.”
The city, under the stewardship of Mayor Eric Singson, is not new to hosting sporting events, as the PBA and the PVL have already held their respective All-Star Events here.

Gregorio also vowed to give more hosting opportunities to provincial sites outside Metro Manila during his stint as head of the PSC.
The FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup 2026 SEABA Qualifiers were also held recently in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.
“Kailangan maramdaman din ng taumbayan, ng mga probinsiya natin, na kaya naman talaga nila mag-host e. Kayang-kaya. Sa totoo lang, excited sila,” said Gregorio.
“So we have to do more sporting events outside of Metro Manila in the years to come. Pangako ko po ‘yan as PSC chairman.”
