MANILA, Philippines – Petro Gazz, the last Philippine squad in the AVC Women's Champions League, put up a brave stand but fell short against Chinese powerhouse Beijing Baic Motor, 29-31, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 12-15, in the knockout quarterfinal on Friday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

With the development, all Pinoy teams are now eliminated from the Asian tournament.

The Angels appeared poised to take the opening frame, reaching five set points in the extended period, only to come up short as Chie Saet committed an unfortunate error and Lanfeng Shan turned back Brooke Van Sickle on the net, 29-31.

Notably, the Chinese side already notched seven blocks in Set 1, while the Angels had none.

They leaned on a 7-2 finishing blitz in the second canto, capped by a Jonah Sabete set-clinching attack to tally the Philippines' first set win in the playoffs, 25-19.

Gia Day found the clutch hits in Set 3 to give the Angels a 2-1 lead, 25-20.

But the Chinese proved to be better, taking care of business in the last two frames en route to the semis.

The Angels tried to come back from a 9-14 hole in Set 5, unleashing three unanswered points, but Yufei Lu was there for the game-winning attack, 12-15.
