MANILA, Philippines – Petro Gazz claimed its third win in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference by sneaking past Akari, 28-26, 29-27, 25-18, on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Sets 1 and 2 were close fights—Grethcel Soltones was the lifeline for the Akari side in the opening canto, scoring three consecutive attack points in the extended frame for a 26-all count.
But the Angels shut down the 29-year-old pride of Catmon, Cebu, as Chie Saet and Remy Palma connived at the net for back-to-back kill blocks on Soltones to secure Set 1.

In the second period, the Chargers were on pace to take the set at 24-22, but an Ivy Lacsina service error and a Myla Pablo kill allowed the Angels to come back.
Akari would again reach set point, 27-26, after Jonah Sabete overcooked her attack, but the 30-year-old outside spiker made up for it as Dani Ravena wasn't able to lift the ball after Sabete's attack for a tie ballgame once more.
A Lacsina error and eventually Palma's surprise attack stunned the Akari side for a Petro Gazz 2-0 set lead.

The Chargers seemed to have lost all momentum, succumbing to the rallying Angels who uncorked a 6-0 run to kickstart Set 3 and never looked back.
Spikers Brooke Van Sickle and Pablo showed their offensive prowesses, leading the Angels' firepower with 19 and 15 points, respectively.
Van Sickle was also present for the defense, registering 13 excellent digs and five excellent receptions. Meanwhile, Lacsina delivered a game-high 21 points for the losing cause.
Petro Gazz (3-1) still has two assignments left this year. Koji Tsuzurabara's cogs will be battling PLDT on December 10 and Cignal on December 14—both matches slated at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Meanwhile, Akari (2-3), after losing in three straight matches, looks to rebound against Chery Tiggo, also on Dec. 10.
