(2nd UPDATE) The women's singles final of the Mubadala DC Open between top seed Jessica Pegula and Alex Eala has been suspended due to thunderstorms and will resume on Tuesday morning.
Pegula won the opening set, 6-4, but trailed 1-2 in the second when rain began pouring, forcing officials to suspend play.
Some five and a half hours later, organizers called off the resumption of play until Tuesday morning as conditions remained unplayable.
The Eala-Pegula match will continue at 12 midnight, Manila time.
Also postponed was the entire men's final at the WTA and ATP 500-level hardcourt tournament, with 10th-ranked American Taylor Fritz set to face 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar.
The start of the match had already been delayed by three hours due to poor weather.
Pegula was down a break in the opening set, 3-4, and faced two break points on her serve before mounting a gutsy comeback. An Eala error and an ace forced a deuce, before Pegula ripped a forehand winner and Eala sent her own shot long to allow the American to knot the count at 4-4.
Pegula went on to break Eala as the Filipina overcooked a forehand, and then held to love to take the opener.
The players exchanged holds in the first three games of the second set before play was suspended due to rain, with Pegula set to serve.
Pegula, who won her first WTA title in 2019 at Washington, seeks her 12th tour trophy and third of the year after Dubai and Charleston.
The 32-year-old American top seed defeated Eala in a 2025 Miami semi-final in their only prior meeting.
Philippines star Eala, cheered all week by a host of supporters, seeks her first WTA title in her second career final, having lost last year at Eastbourne.
The 21-year-old left-hander is set to jump to a career-best 24th in the world rankings.
Eala ousted former world number one Naomi Osaka, second seed Elina Svitolina and defending champion Leylah Fernandez to reach the final.
