MANILA -- The Philippine team for the 2026 Asian Games in September gained six new members on Tuesday.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced that four male and two female athletes have gained qualification in modern pentathlon for the multi-sport spectacle set for Nagoya and Aichi in Japan from September 19 to October 4.

"We got the email from the organizers about the qualification of six modern pentathlon athletes and that's another good news for our campaign," Tolentino said. "The opportunities to do better in Nagoya and Aichi continue to grow wider."

The development comes on the heels of the qualification of two poomsae and kyorugi athletes in taekwondo.

Team Philippines is looking to improve upon their haul of four golds, two silvers, and 12 bronze medals from the 2022 edition in Hangzhou, with Olympians Carlos Yulo and EJ Obiena leading the charge.

"We're hoping that more of our athletes will qualify for the Asian Games, where the competitions have gotten close to the level of the Olympics," Tolentino said.
