Tennis breakthrough star Alex Eala is gearing up to face Valentina Ryser of Switzerland in the Round of 16 of the WTA125 Ilkley Open in the United Kingdom on Wednesday.
This comes after Eala’s win against Lizette Cabrera, 7(7)-6, 6-3 In the first round.
The 24-year-old Ryser is ranked World No. 230 in singles by the Women's Tennis Association, with a 22/11 win-loss record this year.
The Swiss player defeated Sara Saito of Japan in the first round, 6-0, 6-4 to set up the R of 16 clash with Eala.
Ryzer came from the qualifying rounds where she bested UK’s Allegra Korpanec Davies (6-0, 6-2) and Japan’s Sayaka Ishii (6-4, 7-5) to move to the main draw of the Ilkley Open where Eala is the No. 1 seed ranked 77.
Eala and Ryser have met twice.
Ryser won in the W75 Trnava tournament this March (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).
In 2023, Eala beat the Swiss 6-3, 7-5) at the W25 Yecla Finals in Spain, which gave the Filipina her first International Tennis Federation crown.
