Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao kicked off his preparation for his comeback on Monday in Los Angeles, as he hit the track at the Pan-Pacific Park with his team.

Pacquiao, 46, will return to the ring in July for his first professional fight since a loss to Yordenis Ugas of Cuba in August 2021.

"This is the beginning of another chapter. I'm inspired, I'm motivated, and I'm ready to show the world that I still have what it takes," Pacquiao said in a statement.

"Laban ito para sa bayan. Para sa lahat ng naniniwala na hindi pa tapos ang laban," he added.

After his defeat to Ugas, Pacquiao embarked on an ill-fated campaign for the Philippine presidency in 2022. His bid to return to the Philippine Senate this month also fell short.

An eight-division champion, Pacquiao will reportedly face Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight championship on July 19. Before that, in June, the "Pacman" will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Pacquiao jogged laps at the Los Angeles park and did some shadowboxing, as he sought to re-establish his routine during his training camps. His preparation is expected to ramp up in the coming weeks.

While he has not fought professionally since 2021, Pacquiao took part in a handful of exhibition bouts in recent years, including a six-round match against South Korea's DK Yoo in December 2022.
