Philippe Lhuillier MANILA -- Filipina tennis star Alex Eala was honored with the Premios Tanglaw trophy during a recent visit to the Philippine Ambassador to Spain, Philippe Lhuillier.
The Premios Tanglaw award honors Filipinos and Spaniards who have contributed significantly to strengthening the ties between the Philippines and Spain.
"I gave her the trophy which she was not able to attend our embassy celebrations last year called Premios Tanglaw," said Lhuillier.
Aside from Eala, also recognized during last year's rites were Isabel Preysler, the late Senator Ed Angara, and 12 others, according to the ambassador.
Eala, now ranked at No. 72 by the WTA, expressed her appreciation for the ward.
"Naramdaman ko talaga yung support ninyo, pagmamahal niyo sa akin at sana magkita tayo ulit," she said in a message to her fellow Filipinos in Madrid.
The 19-year-old Eala is coming off a run to the second round of the 2025 Madrid Open, where she pushed world No. 2 and defending champion Iga Swiatek to three sets before falling short.
