MANILA -- Some Philippine sports officials will be marching in the parade of nations when the 2025 Southeast Asian Games officially open on Tuesday at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

This, as a handful of athletes from the Philippine delegation will not arrive on time for the rites.

Flagbearers Bryan Bagunas and Alex Eala are expected to arrive in Bangkok just in time, and they will lead 140 athletes who will march for Team Philippines.

However, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino is not expected to suit up and join the contingent on Tuesday night.

"Time nila 'yan," Tolentino said of the athletes. "Para sa kanila ['yung opening ceremonies]."

The program is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Bangkok.

Among the members of Team Philippines who will not march in the parade of nations is the athletics team.

This means star pole vaulter EJ Obiena, along with six-time SEA Games 400-meter hurdles gold winner Eric Cray, 2019 200m dash gold medalist Kristina Knott, Lauren Hoffman and John Tolentino will not be at the opening ceremonies.

Meanwhile, the flag-raising ceremony for the 11 participating countries in the Centennial SEA Games was also held on Monday at the Huamark National Stadium.
