MANILA — The Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization (PHINADO) brought together athletes and officials on Tuesday for an informative anti-doping seminar at Solaire Resort in Parañaque City.
The session, named “Team Philippines: Championing Clean Sport,” was designed for national athletes gearing up for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games and the 13th Asian Youth Para Games 2025.
PHINADO Head Dr. Alejandro V. Pineda Jr. highlighted the vital importance of early education and vigilance in preventing doping violations.
“Prevention is the most… we need to focus on kasi ito ‘yung mura… ‘yung prevention of doping. So, ine-educate natin the very young hanggang sa ating adult athletes or even senior athletes,” he emphasized, pointing out that sharing intelligence with WADA and the International Testing Agency is crucial for PHINADO to keep an eye on potential risks.
He reminded everyone that anti-doping education and testing will be a constant presence in all competitions.

Dr. Pineda encouraged athletes to uphold strong values and make informed choices, especially regarding medications or supplements.
“Kung meron kayong iniinom na supplements, kung may iniinom kayong gamot, kailangan may listahan na kayo… Kailangan ‘yung iniinom niyo alam niyo na walang bawal na ingredients,” Pineda said.
He also stressed that “You and only you are responsible for what goes into your body,” adding that even unintentional doping can lead to serious consequences.
He also reminded para athletes that certain prohibited substances might only be permitted with a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
The seminar included a session on the importance of performance preparation in terms of Conditioning, Nutrition, and Mental Resilience which was led by Dr. Karen Trinidad, who heads the PSC MSAS Sports Psychology Unit.
Team Philippines Chef de Mission for the Asian Youth Para Games, Hon. Milette Bonoan, urged athletes to avoid self-medication during the competitions.
“What I want to remind you is please listen to the experts…Do not self medicate, especially in the games. There will be testing, it is random,” she cautioned, assuring that medical personnel will be part of the delegation.
The seminar forms part of PHINADO’s continuing effort to strengthen clean sport practices as Filipino athletes gear up for a busy 2025 competition season.
