MANILA -- His brother deservedly got the lion's share of the spotlight for his unforgettable achievements in the Paris Olympics, but young gymnast Eldrew Yulo also had a superb campaign in 2024.

The 16-year-old Eldrew -- the younger brother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos -- brought home a handful of medals from the Hong Kong Artistic Gymnastics International Invitational Championships, also known as the Chiu Wai Chung Cup.

In that competition, Yulo achieved a clean sweep, winning gold medals in the individual all-around, vault, floor exercise, parallel bars, horizontal bar, pommel horse, and still rings.

He described his 2024 season as a "great experience," but he is now setting his sights on a loftier goal -- the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

"Kakayanin po. It-try ko po 'yung best ko," Yulo said. "If ever I fail, there’s still more room. Matagal pa, and I’m still young."

"In terms of gymnastics, I have so many skills that I achieved this year. And in terms of mental, there’s so many too because every time I started a routine, I used to get nervous. But now, I [tell] myself that it’s okay," he added.

His brother won gold in vault and in the floor exercise in Paris, cementing himself in the history of Philippine sports. But for Eldrew, his favorite apparatus is "none," instead enjoying all events equally.

His current plan is to stay in the country to continue training, though he is not closing his doors to going abroad.

"If I have to go to the [an]other country to train, just for one month lang. Training camp lang," he said.

In the meantime, Eldrew hopes to spend the holidays with his family in Manila.
