The Gilas Pilipinas Women received a 115-39 beating from Australia to start their campaign in the 2025 FIBA Women's Asia Cup, Sunday at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Shenzhen, China.
Australia -- ranked second in the world by FIBA -- raced to a 31-14 advantage after the opening period and never looked back on their way to a wire-to-wire win.
Even with the game well in hand, they showed no signs of letting up as they allowed only two points from the Philippines in the final quarter.
No player reached double-digits for the Philippines, with Vanessa de Jesus putting up 9 points and Kent Pastrana and Naomi Panganiban each tallying 8 markers.
Jack Animam was limited to two points on 1-of-11 shooting.
Miela Goodchild led Australia with 19 points, as the taller Aussies imposed their will by shooting 61% from the field. They also had a 57-21 rebounding advantage, and scored 29 points off the Philippines' 22 turnovers.
The Gilas Women will try to bounce back on Monday against another powerhouse in Japan, which is ranked 9th in the world.
