Relegated to a spectator in their PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup game vs. TerraFirma Dyip, the former Gilas Pilipinas was given what could have been a fitting goodbye as they dumped their counterparts, 117-103.
“I still wanted to see these guys play, be in the locker room one last time, and tell them that I appreciate them,” said Heading, who has missed games due to a back injury.
The Filipino-Australian guard is reportedly on the move to TNT Tropang 5G in a deal that would send Mikey Williams to Converge.
But while the deal is yet to be approved by the PBA Commissioner’s Office, Heading has already expressed his appreciation for the first team that he played for in the league.
“Credit to Converge. I’m grateful for them and for everything that they’ve done for me,” he said. “They’ve been very respectful to me throughout this whole thing.”
If the deal pushes through, he would be providing much-needed firepower to a Grand Slam-seeking squad that is thin in their backcourt, as their lead guards Rey Nambatac and Jayson Castro are dealing with their respective injuries.
“They’ve proven that they can win championships,” he said. “Having won back-to-back conferences, hopefully, I can get myself into shape so that I can help them as soon as possible.”
However, Heading, who has yet to officially get in touch with TNT, is first focusing on his own recovery.
“I have to get in contact with them. I’m not sure what the plan is right now,” Heading shared. “I have been doing non-contact things. I’m trying to do whatever I can to get back out on the court faster. We’ll just continue to assess the situation and try not to rush things.”
“Whether [my return] is this conference or next conference, we’ll see, but it’s exciting to go to a club with so much history,” he furthered.
