Filipino center Kai Sotto put up a huge double-double to help the Koshigaya Alphas snap their losing streak in the 2024-25 B.League Division 1 on Sunday at the Shiga Daihatsu Arena.
The visiting Alphas crushed the Shiga Lakes, 89-62, with Sotto tallying 16 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks in a 26-minute stint.
He was one of four players in double-digits for Koshigaya, led by LJ Peak with 20 points. The Alphas snapped a six-game losing streak, claiming their first win since December 8.
They now have a 7-18 win-loss record in the tournament.
Also triumphant on Sunday were Matthew Wright and the Kawasaki Brave Thunders, who whipped the Ibaraki Robots 89-78 at the Kawasaki Todoroki Arena.
Wright knocked down seven of his 11 three-pointers en route to 23 points, along with three rebounds and three assists.
After losing 10 consecutive games, Kawasaki has now won back-to-back assignments to improve to 6-20.
Also on Sunday, the Osaka Evessa held on for an 84-80 win against the Akita Northern Happinets at the CNA Arena ☆ Akita. Ray Parks Jr. contributed seven points and three rebounds in the win that hiked their record to 14-12.
However, other Filipinos in Japan absorbed defeats on Sunday.
Kiefer Ravena and the Yokohama B-Corsairs were soundly beaten once more by the league-leading San-En NeoPhoenix, 87-72, with the Filipino guard mustering only seven points and four dimes in the loss.
It was the seventh loss in nine games for the B-Corsairs, who are 9-17 in the season.
Dwight Ramos and Levanga Hokkaido suffered a heartbreaking 75-74 loss against Seahorses Mikawa, as they squandered a late lead to absorb a fourth consecutive defeat.
A layup by Yoshiaki Kuboto gave Mikawa a one-point lead with 11 seconds to go, and Shuto Terazono's jumper was off the mark for Levanga as time expired.
They dropped to a 9-17 record.
The Nagasaki Velca lost 76-70 to the Sendai 89ers, with Gilas Pilipinas center AJ Edu tallying six points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
In the second division, the Yamagata Wyverns fell 81-71 to Kumamoto, as Roosevelt Adams contributed eight points and five boards. The Ehime Orange Vikings lost anew, 90-67, to Shizuoka. Former Ateneo center Geoffrey Chiu was limited to five points and four rebounds.
