MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. cheered on Filipina tennis star Alex Eala on Saturday, ahead of her high-stakes title clash at the Eastbourne Open.

The 20-year old Eala is set to duel with world no. 51 Maya Joint of Australia, after the Filipina triumphed in the semi finals against Russian and world No. 53 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

“Can’t wait to watch Aled Eala make history in the Philippines’ first-ever WTA Finals,” Marcos Jr. said in his social media account.

“We’re already so proud, Alex. Just play your game and enjoy every moment. The whole Philippines is behind you. LABAN!” he said.

The Philippines has been rallying against Eala this year as she defeated several high-ranking tennis players and achieved a first Grand Slam match win for a Filipino woman.

Eala has been included in the entry list of 2025 Wimbledon Championships in London, which will take place from June 30 to July 13.

She is currently ranked 77th at the WTA, and is listed 72nd in the Wimbledon list.
