It’s all systems go for the “Trillion Peso March” along the EDSA People Power Monument Sunday, with 30,000 and more expected to join the street protest against widespread corruption.
Tindig Pilipinas co-convenor Kiko Dee said a pre-program will start at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass to be celebrated by Cubao Bishop Elias Ayuban Jr. at 10:30 a.m.
Delegations from schools, dioceses and parts outside Metro Manila are expected to arrive by 12 noon, ahead of the 2 p.m. start of the program.
Some protesters who will join the “Baha sa Luneta” rally at Rizal Park Sunday morning are also expected to go to EDSA, site of the 1986 People Power Revolution that deposed President Ferdinand Marcos.
Dee said the scale of corruption in government has sparked widespread fury among Filipinos after a series of scandals including overpriced medical supplies from Pharmally during the COVID crisis, overpriced laptops amid an education crisis and now the flood control scandal, which has led to P100 billion in losses to the Philippine economy.
“Tugon po siya sa talagang ramdam na ramdam na galit ng taong-bayan. Nakikiita natin ‘yung dala ng pagbaha sa mga nakaraang linggo. Tapos pag pinagtabi ninyo ito sa talagang sobrang ligayang buhay ng mga taong posibleng sangkot o related sa mga sangkot sa anomalya sa flood control, talagang nandiyan ‘yung galit,” aniya sa panyam sa DZMM.
“Sawa na sa pagtitimpi ang taong-bayan kaya nagsisilabas na tayo,” he said.
He added, however, that their group is not calling for a regime change but to hold accountable all those involved in the flood control controversy.
