MANILA -- The legal team of actress and comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto on Friday said that the complaint filed against her for alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code has been dismissed due to a technicality.

According to her counsel, Atty. Joel Aspiras, the dismissal was based on procedural grounds, as the complainants failed to file the case with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) prior to bringing it directly to the prosecutor’s office.
“‘Yung mga kaso niya na-dismiss na on the grounds that the complainants went directly to the fiscal’s office,” Atty. Aspiras explained.
“Walang jurisdiction ‘yung court unless the SEC itself says na pwedeng isampa ‘yung kaso,” Aspiras said.
The court’s decision was released on April 24, offering a sense of relief to Quinto, who has faced public scrutiny since the complaints were filed.
“I'm sure she's elated. It's something like a vindication. Kasi ang dami rin niya pinagdaanan na hirap dyan sa kasong yan,” her lawyer said.
Quinto’s camp maintained her innocence throughout the proceedings, asserting that she had no direct involvement in the alleged investment scheme.
“Saka si Rufa Mae, she was not an investor, she was merely an endorser—just like Manny Pacquiao and others na hindi naman kinasuhan," he explained.
Aspiras advised caution and responsibility in filing such accusations.
“They have to make sure that ‘yung mga kino-complain nilang tao ay talagang involved. It’s so easy to accuse but it’s difficult to prove the accusation," he added.
