In a surprising shift at the helm of one of fashion’s most storied houses, Gucci’s parent company, Kering, has announced the departure of creative director Sabato De Sarno. The move brings an abrupt end to De Sarno’s tenure, which began in 2023 when he stepped into the role previously held by Alessandro Michele.

With the departure set in motion, Gucci’s upcoming autumn/winter 2024 collection—scheduled to debut on February 25 in Milan—will be presented by the brand’s design team. Kering has confirmed that a new creative lead will be announced before the show, setting the stage for another evolution in Gucci’s design language.

De Sarno’s brief but impactful time at Gucci signified a distinct stylistic shift. Moving away from Michele’s maximalist, vintage-infused aesthetic, De Sarno introduced a more refined and understated approach, focusing on “wearable luxury.” He has pioneered incredible Gucci campaigns like Gucci Ancora and a focus on accessories. However, as Gucci continues its quest for sustained growth and market leadership, this creative transition signals yet another chapter in the brand’s ongoing evolution

.

As fashion insiders speculate on who will next take the reins, one thing remains clear—Gucci’s identity is once again poised for reinvention.
