Recently, Silka invited us to their “Cares for your skin, cares for the Earth” Media Launch at Watsons in Robinsons Manila. The event highlighted changes in the climate and the brand’s move toward sustainability, aiming to reduce plastic consumption through their refillable packs and environmentally friendly ingredients of premium body washes in the market.
Silka's Body Wash Line
Their body wash line features two variants: Premium Papaya Fresh and Premium Papaya Luxe. Both contain Quali-E and promise long-lasting hydration with moisturizing properties. However, Papaya Fresh offers a fruity floral fragrance and provides up to 24 hours of moisturization, while Papaya Luxe boasts a sweet floral scent and maximizes the skin’s softness with almond milk, leaving it hydrated for up to 48 hours.
What is Quali-E?
Produced by DSM, Quali-E is a powerful and high-quality vitamin E that protects the skin from pollution and UV radiation while deeply moisturizing and nourishing it. During the event, Ms. Joreen Tan, Marketing Manager of DSM APAC, shared insights about this ingredient and its contribution to sustainability, “Quali E is produced by DSM. It is a high-quality, environmentally friendly vitamin E made with 100% renewable energy. Quali E produces 57% less carbon emissions compared to others.” She explains.
Sustainable Body Washes
Silka is well-known for its papaya soaps and has been trusted by Filipinas for decades. While maintaining their high-quality production isn’t much of a concern, Silka still stepped up by introducing refillable, eco-friendly packs for their body wash line—making it easier than ever to refill empty bottles and reduce waste.
Ms. Joreen Tan further elaborated the environmental impact Silka could achieve by incorporating Quali-E in their body washes, “If Silka uses 10,000 [units] of Quali E, it would be equivalent to saving 100,600 trees.” At first look, numbers might be big, but with everyday use, changes will be noticeable in the long run.
Results
Silka’s body-loving care wouldn’t be complete without us trying their body wash line. We tested it to see if it lives up to its promises of non-drying, supple skin texture, and long-lasting fragrance. Here’s our verdict:
The product has a runny texture that lathers up quickly on a bath sponge. Upon use, the moisture locks into the skin, leaving it hydrated even after a quick shower. Both variants deliver as promised: Papaya Luxe leaves a sweet floral scent, while Papaya Fresh provides a refreshing fruity floral aroma. After hours of staying outdoors, we noticed that our skin remained hydrated and soft, with the fragrance still lingering. Even after commuting and visiting the market, its effects remained intact.
