After years of anticipation, the long-awaited collaboration between two of their generation's biggest stars—Kathryn Bernardo and James Reid—is finally coming to life in ABS-CBN Studios' highly anticipated new series, "Someone, Someday"!
As the excitement and kilig continue to drum up ahead of its official premiere this coming July 27, let us take an exclusive first look at how this mystery-drama series came to life through the eyes of its cast and directors in this special feature.
The behind-the-scenes feature commences with Kathryn, who plays lead protagonist Benilda "Billy" Cariño, expressing her enthusiasm for everyone to witness her return to primetime television through this series.
"Parang feeling ko, ito 'yong teleserye na medyo natagalan ako mag-warm up with Billy's character. Siguro kasi matagal din akong hindi nag-serye. May last pa was '2 Good 2 Be True'," she related.
Like her, James, who portrays Billy's longtime best friend Jordan Valentin, is also making his teleserye comeback after several years. Noting that it has been a while since his last TV series, James admits that he's "just warming up again" and "getting into the hang of things."
Aside from Kathryn and James— collectively dubbed "KathReid" by their avid shippers—the series is also topbilled by "Her Majasty" Maja Salvador, who's set to captivate audiences once again as the enigmatic Abigail "Abi" Mercado. Despite everything that has happened over the past few years, Maja said she remains grateful to Dreamscape Entertainment and ABS-CBN for always making her feel welcome. She also conveys how happy she is working on set and hopes that the entire production shares the same positive experience.
Preparing for "Someone, Someday" wasn't just a journey for the cast—it was also a challenge embraced by its directors, Chad V. Vidanes and Doll Dulu.
For Direk Chad, who is helming his very first teleserye, this presents an opportunity to step outside his usual creative approach. While this offers a refreshing concept unlike his previous works, he still approaches it with the same level of dedication and discipline as his past projects. He strives to give every scene equal attention and importance, whether directing simple phone conversation or an emotionally charged confrontation.
Aside from highlighting the unique dynamics among its characters, Direk Chad also hopes to further amplify the show's message of women empowerment. After all, it follows the life of Billy, chief executive officer of a new dating app called "Lovelist," a platform designed to empower women in finding not just perfect matches but meaningful relationships as well.
Direk Dolly explains, "Gusto nating tanggalin 'yong taboo that dating apps are bad. So, we wanna showcase the Filipino dating world, how modern it is here and we wanna make it reach them globally as well."
Meanwhile, head writer Genesis Rodriguez reveals that "Someone, Someday" was initially envisioned as a light drama. However, they later realized that incorporating elements of tension, action, and suspense would make the story even more engaging for viewers. As a result, the series now offers a compelling mix of genres, ensuring there's "a little bit of everything for everyone."
Beyond its intriguing mystery and emotional twists—as hinted in the teasers and trailer released over the past weeks—"Someone, Someday" is anchored by a colorful ensemble of characters, each bringing a distinct layer to the narrative.
Kathryn is leading the series as Billy, the epitome of the so-called strong independent woman whom she personally describes as hardworking, tough, and fiercely self-reliant. While some may mistake her guarded nature for cynicism—or even label her a "man-hater"—Kathryn clarifies that Billy still believes in love. It's just that she wants it to be taken seriously.
Opposite her is James as Jordan, Billy's ultimate best friend ever since they were kids. The "Multimemedia Prince" tags his character as a "jack of all trades," juggling life as an IT expert, businessman, and artist. But more than his many talents, what truly defines him is his unwavering reliability and fierce loyalty to the people he loves.
Adding an air of mystery is Maja as Abi, whom she teases as a mysterious woman and a die-hard fan of Billy. However, viewers shouldn't expect everything to be as it seems, for there are plenty of twists surrounding her character, making Abi one of the most exciting roles she has ever portrayed.
Apart from Kathryn, James, and Maja, the show's supporting cast will further enrich the narrative with their equally compelling roles.
Dimples Romana stars as Precious Amador, a role that is totally far from the previous roles she's taken on before. She describes Precious as lighthearted yet emotionally complex, allowing her to showcase a kinder side of herself that we haven't on a serye for quite some time.
Rowell Santiago portrays Enrico Domignguez, the estranged father of Billy and Oliver, who abandoned the family when Billy was still a child. His absence left a lasting emotional wound, shaping Billy into the guarded yet determined woman she has become.
Rita Avila, meanwhile, teases that people will surely be amused by her character Mariela Mercado. Although Mariela constantly clashes with her daughter, Abi, beneath their love-hate relationship lies a mother's deep and unwavering affection.
Also joining the ensemble are McCoy de Leon as Caloy, a street-smart hacker who becomes the first major problem of Billy's company, and Daniela Stranner as Valerie Jones, a popular influencer determined to win back Jordan's heart and do whatever it takes to come between him and Billy.
The series introduces new child actor Migz Casimiro, as well, who plays Oliver Cariño, Billy's intelligent, brave, and charming younger brother. Despite living with Type 1 diabetes at a very young age and growing up without a father figure, Oliver remains cheerful and optimistic.
Beyond the romance, the cast hopes viewers will discover something far more meaningful in "Someone, Someday."
