Amidst the laughter and playful banter in the May 10 episode of “Everybody, Sing!” the vibe suddenly turned serious during host Vice Ganda’s interview with contestant John Paul, a member of the Songbayanan ng mga Haligi ng Palengke.

As he proudly confessed that he’s currently in a relationship, the Unkabogable Star asked him to give a shoutout to his partner—which was revealed to be a guy—and John Paul happily obliged. This prompted Vice to remark how fortunate John Paul is to be able to freely express himself and openly show his love for someone at the age of 22, which was something she never had the chance to experience herself. She was also delighted to learn that their parents were supportive of their relationship.

John Paul’s father, Jonathan—who was also a contestant and standing beside him—suddenly joined the conversation and admitted that he still felt saddened by his son’s relationship because he’s hoping that he will marry a woman someday. Vice candidly told Jonathan that he would continue to carry that sadness if he held on to that mindset. She encouraged him instead to fully accept John Paul’s identity and truth, as well as to wholeheartedly support him so he could live a genuinely happy life.

When Jonathan said, “Pero tanggap ko na rin po kahit papaano,” Vice gently pointed out that true acceptance should not come with reservations. She emphasized that when parents claim to fully love, support, and embrace their children for who they are, there should be no conditions attached to that love.

“Damahin mo ang pag-ibig na nararamdaman mo. Ang pinaka mapalad sa mundo ay ‘yong taong kayang umibig at magbigay ng lubos na pag-ibig. Ang pinaka malulungkot na tao ay ‘yong mga taong hindi kayang magbigay ng lubos na pag-ibig at hindi kayang makaramdam ng lubos na pag-ibig. ‘Yang pag-ibig mo, sa’yo ‘yan. ‘Yang puso mo, sa’yo ‘yan. Angkinin mo. ‘Yang pagkatao mo, sa’yo ‘yan,” Vice reminded John Paul.

The host concluded the heartfelt exchange by reminding everyone that when people are happy and in love, others should choose to support and celebrate that happiness, too.
