The street where Vice Ganda grew up is named after the oldest pawnshop in the Philippines.

Jose Marie Viceral, now famously known as Vice Ganda, was born on March 31st, 1976, and has spent the majority of her childhood in Tambunting Street, Sta Cruz, Manila.

The street’s name is derived from a pawnshop owned by Don Ildefonso Tan Bunting, a son of a Chinese immigrant who started as the city of Manila’s garbage collector. He tried to venture into the shipping industry, but it failed after being defrauded by his business partner. This prompted his wife, Doña Filomena, to persuade him to open a pawnshop, which they named Casa Agencia de Empeños de Ildefonso Tambunting.

Since its inception in 1906, Tambunting pawnshop continues its operations and is now known as the oldest privately owned pawnshop in the Philippines at 120 years old.
